Photobucket replacement

Post by ilovedmymantas »

Well, after despairing with 'they who should not be named' and losing faith in morality, I decided to look for alternatives.
Flickr was useless - links only, although first on the list Imgur seemed really difficult.
So (eventually) I ended up here
https://www.lifewire.com/free-image-hos ... es-3486329

And the winner is... number 9 - PostImage. - Create an account to lose the ads.
The proof

Looks like it might be the forums friend

Thanks for that - I tried Flickr but found the image link a let down.
I noticed that Lowrider Dave manages to display his images from Flicker, but I have no idea how he does it.

I do like the comment "free sharing for life".
Sound exactly like what we want.

That top sites list still reports that Photobucket share for free, so it is obviously giving duff info.

Hopefully it is correct about Postimage.

UPDATE -
Just used PostImage to repair my mirror switch repair thread.
here -
viewtopic.php?f=70&t=16117&p=162554#p162554

Only another several hundred images and posts to sort - it is going to be a long month to go through them all.
But hey ho...

In addition, it appears to be so much easier to get the links than Photo bucket.
It actually says to the right of each link, what it should be used for.
So obviously I chose the one for forums.

I haved used it on a Win 10 laptop and an android phone running nougat o/s, both are just as easy.

The only thing I haven't sussed out is how to upload batches of pictures.

It is a bit slow doing 500 picture uploads one by one - ha ha.

I'm using Amazon S3, can't see Amazon going anywhere soon, and free hosting up to a certain size, which I remember is quite large, It now says 'AWS Free Tier includes 5GB storage'. More than enough for car stuff.

https://aws.amazon.com/s3/?nc2=h_m1

I signed up years ago, I think you only need your existing Amazon account, and I think you have to give a card number, but that is to pay for when you go over the free amount they give you. I just uploaded over 200 pics in about 15 seconds, it's very fast.

Who can edit all my posts for me ? :)

You would need to liaise with an admin, and email your images,

Or speak very nicely to Mr Humbucker to see if he can help with your permissions.

I had seen that, but never read it properly.
Ha ha. :no

It will make a good back up plan if Postimage ever goes the same way as Photobucket.

Having trouble with Flickr, it doesn't seem to load properly, not sure if something is up with their website or not.

If you are doing it by phone app, you may find lots of websites don't play fair.

I use my laptop for most of my thread repair uploading, because many android apps just don't work as I would like.

Does this apply to everyone who wants to sort out / edit their own threads ?

Yep - I am affraid so.

You need Admin or Moderator rights normally to edit historic posts.

Unless Mr Humbucker is able to grant a temporary amnesty on all members to allow retrospective thread / post editing repairs.

Sadly James, Dave and myself are not able to do this... otherwise we would gladly do so.
