Just a general thanks to everyone here.
Hey all. I've been here for a while now as some of you will know.
I just wanted to say that it's been good here, I've learned so much from you guys. I probably learned more from advice from here than anywhere when it came to carrying out work on my old Cavaliers. And as a community in general, what a great forum.
Anyway, I won't bore you with the details but let's just say that I'm not in the best of health these days, both mentally and physically, so if I go quiet, then assume that I've gone to some place more quiet and peaceful.
Just want to say all the best to all of you, this is not a suicide message but I feel like my time is coming.
Until the time comes, I'll still be around.
Andrei.

Hi Andrei,
Wow, you always were able to command an interesting post.
The only person that I know, who could put a light hearted tone, to an otherwise dark and sombre subject.
Judging by your post count, I think you have contributed as much as anyone.
So you are equally as much to thank as anyone.
You have also been very entertaining during those drink and drug-haze fuelled discussions in the early days.
Despite the huge changes that have taken place in the 12 years that I know of, It gives me great happiness to hear that you still get some pleasure form being a member of "the gang".
On behalf of the Admin team, and the forum as a whole, I feel that I should say "Thank You" for being a font of great knowledge and for sharing the information that you yourself had picked up on the great Cavalier journey.
However, I suspect a few more posts yet, before we let you retire to the Cavalier garage in the sky.
Although I am sure that you will laughingly say that you will be going down to the garage pit for more underside repair shinanigans.
Probably on a big yank tank, or muscle car... Dodge Ram perhaps?
Respect to you my dear friend.
Rob.

Thanks Robsey, I appreciate it. It's been a good run. But the clock counts down eventually for all of us. Just have to make the most of it.

According to your stats, you are only young, so not "that good a run",
But no doubt, you worked hard and played hard.
And you are most welcome.

Hi Andrei,
Embarrassingly, I saw your post that night and it's taken me this long to try and say something. How do you reply to such honesty
As a relative newbie (who isn't, compared to you lol) I've benefited from your advice and I'd like to thank you too.
I'm sure there are more in the background echoing Robsey's sentiments.
Thanks for your frankness and I'm glad to hear you'll still be around.
Respect and Lang may yer lum reek

Long may your chimney smoke....
(I apologise for having to use google - being a sassenach and all that).
As a keen advocate for clean vehicles (I recall Andrei does not like dirty smokey diesels)...
I think the phrase should be -
"Long may your smokeless fuel bring warmth and happiness" - tee hee.
Either way - you ain't going anywhere yet, until you get your post count upto 10,000.
Another 221 posts by my reckoning.

Re: Just a general thanks to everyone here.
Thanks Matt, I appreciate your message.
You're right Robsey, I can't stand anything that sounds and smokes like a tractor unless it actually is a tractor. Diesels belong in agricultural or heavy goods vehicles, not in ordinary cars.

Re: Just a general thanks to everyone here.
I agree, it can seem a little dificult to respond.
But I recall my feelings when people did not know how to talk to me after my mum's death in 2013.
At that time, I simply wanted people to talk to me how they always had.
Not treat me like I had two-heads.
As for Andrei, I cannot speak for him, but I suspect the best thing is to banter as normal, and not to get bogged down in too much sentiment.

Re: Just a general thanks to everyone here.
You're right Robsey, life goes on as normal, each day is another day, and I like to make the most of each day as they go by. Sorry to hear about your loss Robsey, I can't imagine what that is like.

Re: Just a general thanks to everyone here.
Thanks Andrei
As I said, I don't get down about it.
She wasn't a well woman for a lot of her life,
So when she finally left us, I knew that she was no longer suffering.
Besides, the world is not the nice place it was thirty or so years ago.
(Or at least it appeared or pretended to be).
And if you think that way - she is probably in a better place.
Fortunately for me, I rarely suffer moments of "darkness".
I know that I am lucky, and I am thankful that despite being in my fifties, my physical and mental health are both still pretty good.
But I do have friends who suffer the demons of mental health or physical disability.
(Dare I say it, my wife included.)
They all have suffered far more already than I ever could comprehend.
I never pretend to be aware or try to understand how they feel - how on earth could I.?
That would just be patronising.
In conclusion -
Life goes on.
A case of "Same $#!7, different day" for many.
Until we finally go up in a puff of smoke in a wooden box.
Apologies if that got heavy, or deep and meaningful.

Re: Just a general thanks to everyone here.
Boy, what a thread.
I think Rob's first post says it all, it's tough to add anything more meaningful to that.
As an 11 year old member of the forum I'll never forget just how funny it was to read you and PlanetC (Paul) spending all night discussing cake and biscuits. (maybe that's a thread that needs reviving!)
This forum has always been full of really great people and you're one of the biggest.
Whatever you need buddy, just say the word.
We're here anytime you need us.

Re: Just a general thanks to everyone here.
Thanks James, I appreciate it. I think it was others discussing cake and biscuits though, you must have got confused there lol. I was usually getting drunk and wondering which stickers and decals I wanted to stick onto my Cavalier the next day.

Re: Just a general thanks to everyone here.
I prefer a savoury pie myself...
Mince & Onion, Balti, Chicken & Bacon or Chicken & Mushroom.
Biscuits... I could manage a Garibaldi.
Not too sweet.
If nothing else, we definitely know that PlanetC was the resident biscuit king.
Troy and I were only discussing Paul and his biscuit threads yesterday.

That takes me back lol, I remember when the forum was silver lol, back in the good old bad days! Don't think I contributed much just read stuff! Afraid I never got round to that cake thread until it was too late, it seemed to have petered out. Is it coming back?James McGrath wrote:Boy, what a thread.

Re: Just a general thanks to everyone here.
I have old threads saved on CD somewhere, where the forum was like a sky blue colour - version one.
We all know the two later versions.
It all seems a bit of a blur for me now.
I just read the original biscuit thread.
Wow it goes very random, but very funny in places.
viewtopic.php?f=78&t=9881&start=0
Andrei did feature a lot in the early pages...
I don't think Paul ever did compile an informative league table.
I am a world of confusion or contradiction.
I don't eat much chocolate and I do not eat many biscuits.
But I do like Rocky Caramel bars.
I just thought you ought to know -
Troy on the other hand - locally made Hill's Orange Creams seem to float his boat.
And dirt cheap from the pound shop.
