Club Survey : How many miles do you get out of your tank?

Post by humbucker »

For no other reason other than general interest and to further our common understanding of the various engines fitted to mk3 Cavaliers and how economical they are I wondered how many miles you get out of your tank on average? Might make for some interesting reading and help others with decision making when it comes to buying a used mk3 Cavalier. This is open to all but aimed at the 'daily drivers' really.

Please format your response as follows:

Model/Engine: i.e. CDX 2.5 V6 / SRi 2.0 RedTop / LS X20XEV etc
Hatch/Saloon: i.e. hatch / saloon (and if anyone puts 'estate' we need pics  )
Year: i.e. 1994
Petrol/Diesel: you get the idea
Fuel used: i.e. regular unleaded/V-Power etc
Miles out of tank: i.e. 350
Driving conditions: i.e. mainly motorway / urban or town / drive very fast 'cos you can etc etc :o

And any additional information you want to include or discuss :)

incidentally, i would put my own findings in but tbh i havent actually filled the car up and used a tank since i've had it, just put a few quid of v-power in each time i take her out (which isn't that often!)

Thats a pretty good average considering the current gas prices. Around town i can get about 180 miles from just under half a tank as i've tried last week. Never tried it on a long motorway run, i ought to.

Just to add to my above note.

Filled cavalier fuel tank (BP Ultimate) up on friday until kick back on petrol pump, then drove without any stops to Scotland.

On arriving at destination (Larkhall) refuelled until kick back felt on pump, this was the results:

345 miles travelled
35.25 litres = 7.7gallons used (4.55lts. = 1 gallon)
44.8 miles per gallon.
Averaging speeds of 70 to 80 mph

This may be a bit crude way of working things out but its near enough.
