I re- lowered the cav (possibly a touch too much) NEW PICS

Well today i wasn't upto much and after a useless day attempting to fix a ford, i spent a good 20mins swapping my rear springs out.

Pictures are a bit out of focus but it gives you an idea, exhaust is wonky and i need to modify the skirt ends so the wheels don't catch but you get the idea.

It drives a lot better than i expected, bit like my vectra with the coilovers.

Might raise the back 10mm or so see how it goes.

I think that's what most people aim for when slamming their rides. There is not the tiniest gap in the wheel arch area. But the bodykit seems to stay high up. I reckon you can get a lower bodykit, or modify it, that'll finish it off nicely. But again, there are speed bumps and rough roads. Good work though. :thumb

Looks almost like the rear arch disappears into the rear door. It's not my thing but if your happy with it, it's certainly not something I've seen before.

Love the alloys. Think the back needs to match the front. as it looks like you have adead body in the boot. How will you raise it 10mm?

It looks like your suspensions knackered, which isnt a good look.

I'd put it back how it was.

the rear arches have been extensively modified, they are nowhere near standard

Andrei its not going any lower visually or otherwise its probably 2" off the floor in most places, you can just stick your shoe under the sill on the back - ive never had the rear of a car that low before.

Dave. Ive come up with a plan to raise the back a touch, i think its going to work and it should only take a scrap yard visit and 20mins a side to sort. (a lot cheaper than another set of springs)

Gary. the wheel being close to the back door is because of the way the rear beam rotates, ive got some plans that involve fixing the issue (and having taller springs) it but its not happening till after winter as it involves a custom rear beam. Thats why i had to remove the end caps because they were catching, they are now in the rear footwell.

Dan. sod off

The way i see it you lower a car on photoshop and think that's a good look so i decided what the hell and did it in real life.

So just to confirm its a GSi Rep and not a GSi aye?
Never realised
So 1 big rear solid beam to play with?

I'd say it was a turbo rep as it has the boot panel lights ands 5 stud.

VW golf owners do a thing where you can fit metal brackets on to the rear hubs. The sturts stay in normal position but the hubs move up the strut slightly. So wheel sits further into the arch but you still get full suspension movement.

That was part of the plan to move the hub (back and up), I've still gotta work out the fine details and the fabrication. As well as getting a rear beam locally to work off

Turbodan wants to do rear coil-over conversion and tbh ii'm very temped it should be reasonably straight forward and it means i can stop using tiny springs :D i reckon its more than doable. just need to find an affordable, correct fitment rear coilover.

took it for a sun run to see a mate of mine, and while i was out i did a bit of a detour to see if it would rub on the speedhumps on the way to work - IT DIDN'T :D realised while i was out as i only do local trips and theres no way im doing distance at this height i took everything out of the boot so it would raise a touch.

I can't really live forever with this setup but while only driving local its game on.

Its only a 15min job to swap the springs over, its a good job ive got a low entry jack.

Looks like the rear suspension is broken lol. The back needs to be same level as front or a little higher for the nose down look.

Its great to look at but tbh shite to drive on anything but a nice road.

Yea i put it back, ideally i wanted the back to sit like that and the front lower but with british roads i couldnt keep it.
But it had no suspension travel really, if you were on a flat piece of road it was fine but any bumps and you could feel your teeth.

I only lasted a week at that height, but things have been bought and plans devised to get it back to nearly that low and still have travel. Im waiting for a quiet patch at work so i can get it in and get some cutting disks out :D

the springs are at most 5" long, they do stay in but only on one side. Rear shocks are standard (should really be shortened)
Front is just a 60mm drop with shortened shocks.
