I've seen this tidy mercedes locally for months but was never in the right bit of the car park.



Saw this '98 toyota on sunday.

Finally - I have something to offer.

There is an elderly chap who lives on the next street.
He is long since retired and fills his days restoring really old cars.

Here he is on our communal car park talking to one of my neighbours who spends most weekends tinkering with his old Indian motorcycle.



So both men are into vintage vehicles.

I think he was looking for carb tuning advice.

Still - it was very nice to hear the car's big engine burble around the car park.

Apparently it is a Singer -1500cc
Sounded like a big v8 engine... nice!

What an idyllic way to pass the time

Coincidently this was coming out of my next street.



1946 Fordson.
Apparently ford made vans and trucks under the tractor brand name early on.

It's not one of the better pics unfortunately.
The dashcam is great for capturing detail ahead but when the subject is off to the side, and by the time the image has been cropped, it makes a 1440p image look like 360p

Blimey - that driver looks like he fills that cab.

Either he is huge - (size of an outdoor s#!7-house).
Or that car is quite small.

There is a fella near me who owns a whole fleet of Citroens.
He has a newer Citroen that is "meh!"
- a 2008 C5, which is okay.

The Toyota Aygo is almost a Citroen C1...
Still - "meh!!"

In my opinion, his three oldest cars are my favourites.
The older the better.
Podium position No3 is this X reg Xantia Diesel Estate.



Position No2 is a black N reg 2 litre Xantia Diesel hatch.
And Position 1 goes to an old original Citroen DS

I have been trying to get pictures of the others for years, but it is pot-luck when he brings my two favourites home.

An original P38 Range Rover Vogue V8.

I never used to like the Range Rover, preferring the more utilitarian Land Rover. But I appreciate it more and more these days.
The looks have aged really well and it's actually a very practical, well designed car.
And unlike the modern equivalents, it's not as wide as it looks and is easy to see past it if you're following it from behind.

Another turn of the century car, this time a really tidy fiesta


My favourite has to be this capri, haven't seen one on the roads for years

Ah yes, Ford Capri mk3.
We had one in the unit last year... and it will be back in next week.
Driven by a total turkey of a lad, but he ho.





I used to love Capris too, back in the day.
My dream car was the mk2 Escort RS2000.

Strangely I have never owned a Ford.
Never really had the urge.
Since marrying the missus in 1995, we have only ever had Vauxhalls.
Three of them to be exact.

I had a 2.0 capri about 30 years ago. Got it cheap because the guy selling it couldn't get it running right, spent a fortune rebuilding it mechanically. I put new points, new leads, rotor arm, set the timing, and it ran perfectly.

This one had me baffled until i did a little digging.
The thing that first caught my eye was the black number plate



next was the badging, I didn't know that model of ferrari even existed.





It's a replica 'BMW tribute 250 swb' based on 2000 Z3 body.

The .gov has it listed as red, I think having a red roof is stretching it a bit though.
I also wonder about the legality of the number plates. Isn't the back one illegal due to the age of the car and the front one too small, and why not a Q plate?
-I know I'd be peed off if I was asked to read that number plate at 20 metres

it failed the mot for one indicator not working and three warning lamps. Isn't technology wonderful
definitely an eye catcher though. I love the wire wheels and pedestrian shredding hubs

I saw a range rover in that beige colour and on foreign plates.
No pic though, I can't remember where it was that means there's a lot of 5min clips to check

This escort looked almost new on passing. I couldn't see any flaws, not bad for a twenty-two year old van.



To my surprise another capri, '78 this time.



I like the wide tyres. That got me thinking "I know they're illegally wide but does that still apply if the car's mot exempt" ?

Although "MOT Exempt", there is a legal requirement for the driver of the vehicle to ensure that the car is "safe" to be on the road.
That is, mechanically and structurally sound, but also unlikely to cause harm or injury to other motorists and pedestrians.

The rule is that they must not extend beyond the body, and there is a small arch extension there. Probably sitting in a grey area as it meets the rule, but tread is still exposed from the car.

Good question.
Looking at it with fresh (and more nostalgic) eyes I'd say it's definitely in the grey area, and I applaud that. The driver looked about the same age I was back when driving was fun and testing the law was normal

When I had the manta's I had oversized 205's on r13 rims(They cost me two manual steering racks but it was worth it ).
They were also a grey area but didn't stand out so much on standard rims, particularly because the rear sill arch trim flared out to cover the rear wheels.

The capri ones look like "balloon" all-terrain tyres, they do stand out, handy for saving your wheels when parking at some of edinburgh's 10" granite kerbs

I saw all the vans in the first few pics, and I thought it must be van season...

Because I saw a few vans today.

I was out with the missus and the mother-in-law today in Derbyshire.
In the land of the Dambuster dams...
Derwent Valley.

First we went to the Ladybower Inn for our anniversay dinner. A bit pricey for a pub Sunday lunch but very filling - yum.
Just as I was pulling into the car park, we were led in by a young couple (early thirties at the most) driving this.



Then down to the nature reserve at Derwent (Fairholmes) to see the ducks.
Walking round the reserve, to walk off the pub lunch, we passed this.



The weather stayed hot (29°C) all afternoon, so a bit intense, but at least I was not working in it.

I don't know how i missed this post, nice selection of vehicles. I might get to a show this year but for now it's the stuff i see on shopping trips a couple of times a week. This is a month's worth :( .

Since we've ended with vans i'll start there.

Saloon no less. My Dad had a 214 on a J plate for a while. No replacement for the 1.3 Mk2 Cavalier he had before it but happy memories none the less.

I am sure that I have seen one similar knocking about.
Same green metallic as found on loads of Rovers of that era.

I took the wife to the local "country park" near Stockport.
Whilst there, this turned up.



I didn't really pay much attention until I heard a loud 'piiiisshhhhhh!!".
Obvious by the picture that he had just vented off his air suspension.
Check out the crazy rear wheel camber angle when the car is on the floor - lol
