This MX5/Roadster actually had a photo of the owners dog attached to the door (don't go getting any ideas Andrei!):

Morris Minor, I spoke to a young kid a while ago around here who had one, he only just passed his test and that was his first car. I thought, that's ideal for a first car. None of this cheap french crap which kids go for nowadays..... Get yourself a Morris minor, you've only got the basics to learn then and no crappy electronic gadgets to distract you.......... Perfect really. Everyone should learn to drive in something like that I think. Might get some more general sense into young drivers that way.....

I learned to drive in a 1969 mini estate. Much the same really - not even any proper door handles.

Re: Stuff we've seen on the road
I'm not sure if the indicators on this Moggy have been retro fitted as it still has the indicator arms that stick out of the side of the car.
I do love Morris Minors and even looked into buying one to pootle around in a few years back but the prices bowled me over, even for a rotten one. I remember seeing one with running boards and a V8 at Knebworth once, that was quite special!

Re: Stuff we've seen on the road
Yeah you're not wrong; they are ideal cars for people who want to get their hands dirty, much the same as 'classic' Minis. Pretty simple mechanical stuff and a good car to cut your teeth on, although these days any pre-CANbus style motor probably qualifies in the same way. Electronic dependencies are a bit of a headache unless you are kitted out with the appropriate diagnostic equipment.Cavalier342 wrote:Morris Minor, I spoke to a young kid a while ago around here who had one, he only just passed his test and that was his first car. Re: Stuff we've seen on the road
It's not the diagnostics, it's the sodding gadgets that they put into cars nowadays. Ridiculous, it should be back seat gadgets, not driver gadgets.
My first car - 1300 carb Mitsubishi Colt GL. As basic and simple as you can get. Learned to drive properly that way. Guarantee I would have been a worse driver if I'd had something new, "fancy" and shit as my first car..... Guarantee it.

Re: Stuff we've seen on the road
It's been a pretty fruitful week, saw a Renault 19, loads of Cavs, and some of these badboys:
This actually had 'Bodgit & Scarper' painted down one side and 'Crap & Co' painted down the other!

And BBC Breakfast 'business babe' Steph McGovern was so excited at seeing a Mk3 Cavalier on her video wall that she was compelled to simulate oral:

I swear thats what he does. Either that or hes planting all these cars around his village just so he can go and take pics of them and claim that they just "showed up" on the street... lol
