How rare is a 1.4?

Post by StockCav »

I'm attempting to answer my own question here as I thought people might be interested. A study of 'How many left' stats shows that, as of the 3rd quarter of 2012 there were 17012 Cavaliers of all types left of which 11771 were taxed. Of those just 104 were 1.4 models, only 51 of which were taxed. Of these there were 12 'Concept' models of which 6 were taxed, 70 'L' models ofwhich 31 were taxed, and 22 plain 'Cavalier' of which 14 were taxed.
It seems therefore that my own 1989 1.4L Hatchback is one of only 70 1.4lL cars surviving, only 31 of which are on the road and of those perhaps only 20 or so will be hatchbacks, and most will be worn out, higher mileage, or non-standard. So it really is rare, and almost certainly the only one of its specification left. When I get the chance I'll load some pictures. It is frustratingly dark and wet!

I looked for one for a bit but I was running out of time for a runaround and needed to get something insured swiftly before my policy lapsed, so gave up the search and bought my 1.6L Auto hatch, also rather rare it seems, (how many left says 6 on the road) as many of the specific models are. What interested me about a 1.4 was the prospect of cheap tax, simple carb engine, decent economy and the utter poverty spec-ness, which would have been the other end of the spec scale compared to my Diplomat. Just back to basics cheap motoring, but could I find one! so went for the auto, and it's ace. Still fancy an 1.4L unwashed white hatch though, as long as there was green moss growing in the the corners of the door seals.

Looking forward to seeing some pics of yours.

I could let you have a little of mine so you can grow it on and start your own 'garden' :D
