Modified car insurance

Post by iancav6 »

As the rebuild on the V6 is progressing well and the GTIs insurance about to run out,i thought i'd best start getting quotes for the Cav.What I wanted to do was find an insurance company that will cover both cars but not at the same time,ie use the Cav for the 6 months of summer and the GTI in the winter.By using the same company I can just swop between cars with minimal fuss, expense and not lose any NCB from that year.
I got a quote from Flux for the Cav with all mods for £330 which I thought was ok,then asked about the GTI.He came back and said the company only normally insure specialist cars but would take on the GTI for the same £330 which is not great as I can insure it on its own for about £150.

Does anyone else do this,if so what insurance company do you use?

I don't want both on the road at the same time cos of the road tax and I also have my Yamaha on the road in the summer.

Just get quotes for both cars find one that's good for both then go with them and ring up to change when you want to

Classic car insurance is even dearer in Oldham.
Really depends on your location. I live in the middle of shot gun city where as you probably live in the woods where there's only squirrels to be seen.

Hi Gaz
Would you like us to link up officially on here so we can support the club financially and also recognise you as one of our linked forums? (We have 170+ forums linked with us!).
I would just do one thread and PM you the details.
Thanks
Tim

I had a quote off of Performance Direct last week, fully comp all mods declared for just over 400 which is pretty good considering im now paying over 600 with all mods declared with Elephant car insurance.

Think I will be changing next month unless Elephant can match it again!
Free Parking is a bonus, leaving my Cav in a carbon dust filled carpark is not.....

Hi Tim,

Can we see some example policy quotations before we are seen to formally associate ourselves with you? We have a 'recommended automotive services' section which we could put a permanent thread for you, however, I would be keen to see some real world examples based on provided information to ensure that your offering represents great value for our members? I am happy to provide typical examples which I can compare to my own existing classic/modified policies to determine the viability of your offering? I'm sure you understand that we need to be cautious when sending our members to an unknown seller.

Thanks in advance, I look forward to hearing from you.

Depends on the insurer I guess. I have all my mods declared.

Yes it does depend on which insurer you're with.
On our scheme, for standard policies, we cover mods on a like for like basis but on Classic policies, we tend not to cover mods.
