saloon or hatch, witch do you prefer and why?

Post by Chip Pan Dan »

as titled

i prefer saloons, because you dont tend to see many on the road, my first cav was a saloon and they just look awesome once they have a few tasteful mods done.

Saloon. Perfect proportions , I like the hatch but find it a bit front heavy in looks

Obvious really, practicality - hatch, looks - sedan. Always the way.

To be honest I love the look of the saloons and would happily buy one but they are much rarer than the hatches, don't mind the hatch but it can look a bit family car in comparison.
Free Parking is a bonus, leaving my Cav in a carbon dust filled carpark is not.....

Who wants a practical car these days anyway, Saloon all the way!

Even vauxhall knew the hatchbacks were just wrong from day one so they only made a gsi and turbo saloon. 8-)

Then they went over the top and fitted a V6 into them :D

Hatch back SRi's can look really good. I love saloons.

I have both. Saloon for pure looks, and the hatch for day to day. Best of both worlds.

But Vauxhall stopped doing hot saloons, the Vectra VXR was estate and hatch only!

And the never brought the mark 5 astra saloon out.

Saloon all the way, although I would happily have a deep blue Red Top SRi hatch slammed on 18s if I needed a 'practical' Cav

I like both but i do prefer the saloon mainly for the look but i do love my hatch as its easier to load the back up with bits.

I think it depends on the trim level. If it's a pre-facelift L for example, I'd go with a hatchback.

Anything post-facelift though, and I'd go for saloon.

However, if we were to extend the topic a little to include the MK2 Cavalier, I'd choose a hatchback over a saloon any day. The saloon MK2 just doesn't look right whereas the hatch is one of the best looking cars ever in my opinion.

I'm all about practicality, so a vote for hatchbacks... An estate would be even better though...
Current Vauxhall: '95 Vauxhall Cavalier Hatch 1.7TD (Izusu)
Past Vauxhalls: '94 Astra Hatch 1.7TD (Izusu), '94 Astra Hatch 1.4ltr, '94 Astravan 1.7TD (GM), '89 Nova Saloon Mk1 1.0ltr, (Bedford) Brava pickup 2.2D.
...Plus loads of non-Vauxhall!

Fate has always dealt me hatchbacks, although I'd quite like a saloon as my brother had a GSI2000 in satin red.

Saloon for me to but Id still like a pre facelift Sri hatch slammed on 17s. I've had 2 hatches before
The saloon was selected for the irs changes as there was more room. In doing so the calibra was released
....with a brew and my favourite biscuits.
