At the end of august my cav will run out of tax and test. I dont know weather to sell as a rolling shell. With all the cav goodies left on it or break it. I've done a lot to the cav for the drag strip. Been a really good budget racer. But I got my 87 restored Belmont as my next project drag wep.
The cav weights 960kgs running. It's been on a fair diet, 14.53 sec quarter with standard c20xe.

For the rolling shell, I'm wanting the engine and engine loom and ancillarys, gear box the 2 seats , race fuel tank and pump. Maybe couple other parts can't think off top of my head.

The Cavs got bilstien shocks all round. 75mm fronts and 120mm rear springs. Gsi lights German smoke repeaters black ring head light mod. After market mesh grill. Gsi front bumper and gsi side skirts complete with all caps n end bits and tow eye cover. Modifyed rear gsi bumper.(badly). Manuel steering rack conversion abs removed too it is a back to basics car. Good brakes all round .

It is a track and drag toy. Has been since I bought it for that reason lol. Shame to kill it but I'm going more old skool toy.

Just can't make my mind up on it at all lol.

Standard weight for a Cavalier as printed on the VIN plate.

My belmont with saab engine 156kg i think they are weighed 1270kg with me and a passenger and a few bits in boot and 1/4 of a tank of fuel. So its own weight would be more around the 1000kg. So cav would be same if belmont wss in standard form! ;-)

I think the 1660kg part is the max gross weight too

Gross Andrei, vin plates don't include unladen weights

Ye gross curb weight. 1670kg for my auto, 1760 ish for the V6. Gross combination weight is 3100kg on the V6.

Unladen weight is no driver and a tank of fuel I think. They're way heavier than 1200kg, that just seems too light for the size of the car.

No, gross is fully laden, the kerb weight is ready to roll and for a 5dr c18nz ls auto is 1145kg quoted straight from the original handbook

disappointing? in what way lol a 170bhp v6 1700kg+ would be so fecking slow!!! not to mention 5mpg

gsi 3/4 stripped was weighed 1120kg octavia only weighs 1300kg and thats so much bigger than my gsi was

I like heavy cars, but I won't go on about it.

Just thought Cavaliers were a lot heavier than that. They're built like tanks, thought there would be a bit more weight to them. I want a Senator :(

Your a strange little man. Lol fill the boot with concrete then it will be 2tonne. Do about 3 miles to a tenner.
Why don't you like modern cars then they weigh 1500kg and are massive as compared to the cav

Or you could fill the sills with strawberry jelly and retain the boot space? Bonus would be that you would have an emergency food source if you ever got stuck whilst off roading?

No, modern cars are ugly and problematic, that'll never change. I'm more into my full size American cars. Heavier is the way to go, better comfort when cruising and better traction in the wet.

Anyway I think we ruined this thread enough

I'm not going to explain the physics of it but a heavier car will have less traction round corners because there is more weight to "pull" it out of line.

In my opinion weight is the biggest killer when it comes to cars. A heavier car also tends to have harder suspension so that it doesn't lean as much in the corners.

Well not always. Depends on the layout of the car itself. I.e. how wide it is, how wide the track on it is, ground clearance, and obviously what tyres are fitted. Weight transfer makes the tyres work harder, which given the right road conditions won't make for bad handling.
