Brake pads won't fit - but correct part number
Hi
Any ideas on this one. C18NZ listed pads 90485140 won't fit my 1.8. They are too small?
Putting this number into the part finder gives 4 different versions. How you know what one is correct? Obviously I've got the wrong ones?

Gave parts my chassis number etc.
Cheers
Andrew

2.0l brake pads at a guess I would think you need. What size is the disc ,256mm ??Take old one with you when you go to pick them up. To make sure they are correct.

Got number off of old pad, the number is 93192637, which is pads for a 2.0. No idea how I've got pads etc for 2.0 but there you go. The number is not listed on GM catalog because it has been superseded by this number 90399495.

Chances are, someone upgraded the brakes earlier in the cav's life, or it was uprated at factory and never updated on the system

Likely something like that has happened. Scary thing is I got pads for it before and they were the right ones! I had my old calipers off my old 2.0 and if I changed them over and cant remember doing it then I'd be very surprised.Envoy CDX wrote:Chances are, someone upgraded the brakes earlier in the cav's life, or it was uprated at factory and never updated on the system
Hmm maybe I should plonk a 2.0 in there to match the brakes

Well, later 1.8's did have 256mm discs by default, but were 20mm thick rather than 24mm thick if I recall correctly (it's been a while since I recalled this information) - so it's anyone's guess unfortunately.

That's right. Originally they were 9.3" and were upgraded to 10.1".
It's all a bit vague as to when the change over actually happened though.
It doesn't mention the upgrade in the sales brochures until 1995 but my LS from mid 1993 has them and I know a few others that have them too.
Always best to do a visual check first before buying.

I know that this is an old thread now, but I just happened to come across it whilst looking at a different thread.
I had the reverse situation with my Cav in the summer.
It started life in 1994 as a C18NZ, but when I ordered the pads, I found that I had ordered the bigger ones, and they would not fit my smaller callipers.
Sounds to me like Vauxhall were just dipping into any parts bucket towards the final 15 months of production.
Mine are the Ate callipers with 20 mm thick vented discs.
Couldn't tell you the diameter of the discs though.

Re: Brake pads won't fit - but correct part number
Thanks for the offer Gary.
No worries,
The existing callipers and pads stop the car well enough, so to save any extra hassles, I will stick with them.
I have the correct sized pads now too.
Original GM marked items - so hopefully we are good to go.

Re: Brake pads won't fit - but correct part number
Talking of OE brake discs; I have a set here that I picked up when I took parts off of jimzzr's TD LS the other week.
The part number is 90399495.
It's listed on Ecat24 as 'AFTERMARKET SPECIFICATION'
Does anyone know what that means exactly? Are they beter than the originals, worse perhaps?

Re: Brake pads won't fit - but correct part number
Ecat can be a bit odd.
I have pads with the identical part number, but they are marked up on the pads themselves as GM original parts.
Aftermarket "usually" infers inferior, but that is not strictly true.
I made a point of asking the garage to replace all 4 road springs on the wife's Vectra with aftermarket parts.
GM original springs are too brittle, and snap too easily.
Incidentally her car failed it's 3rd MOT with two broken front springs and two cracked rear springs.
The place I usually draw the line is ignition components and sensors.
Where possible I look for Bosch or GM original parts.
I am sure we all know of certain parts where one brand is regarded as "the holy grail" to use.
