There's a place in Hinxworth that make em for mk3 Cavaliers. Gary Envoy CDX bought one for his project. They're advertised for sale on eBay.

Isn't the footprint of a spit generally alot wider than your average engine stand?

Yes it probably is, but all depends on what stand you buy. There would have to be a bit of modifications done like make it a bit higher. Seen photos on the web. I wonder were it would bolt to the car tho.

I don't know what your faciities are or your skill level but I doubt I'd bother, the cost of two engine stands plus the hassle of extensive modification, I'd probably buy a built-for-purpose spit, even a second-hand one; the consequences of something letting go while your pride and joy is on its back in mid-air is almost too awful to contemplate.

That said, I've no idea what they cost :)

Good shout
I can't see anyone manufacturing something of their own with that sort of tech spec and those sort of guarantees for £250'ish including the postage

I too am less than sure about how the shell attaches to the spit. Do you have to drill the shell and bolt the connecting bars into place? That can't be right? :scratch

Maybe Gary can advise.

Ah, I just re-read the ad: "Full 360 degree rotation at the touch of a finger due to being perfectly balanced on the cars central axis. Bolts into place using the cars original bumper mounting holes with our stronger irons where required."

An email I just received back from the company when I asked about availability of Mk3 Cavalier jigs. They're even cheaper if you want to buy in kit form and weld together yourself.

"Good morning,

Thats fine, we make one to suit your car, it would bolt onto the bumper mounts.

We don't currently list the self loading tools on ebay or the castor kit attachments.

These can be found on our website http://www.rolloverjigs.com

The self loading tools clamp onto the bracket that bolts to the car then clamps onto the jig & has an m16 threaded rod that runs through the clamps, its just a case of winding it up with a nut gun, rachet etc.

We sell these in two's (one for each side). postage on these is free if purchased with a jig so be sure to add to basket but choose the purchase with jig option so you dont get charged postage on these.

When ordering from our website please fill in the online form, just put in the model & make of car followed by your contact number as we need this for couriers.

Any questions please ask.

Many thanks
Tom"

Sounds like a good product from a customer-friendly outfit

Good to see they have the same concerns over airborne pride and joys that I expressed :D

I think you's are right in saying that it would be a disaster if anyting would ever happen if the car was airborne and maybe just got a new coat of paint. It prob would be worth the money to buy something that is purposely build for the job as i have two cavs to sort out.

According to the company's website, if you order a spit and are in a position to return it within six months, they'll refund you 50% of the original purchase price.

Mounts through the bumper mounts. However - the rear panel really isn't up to the job - and the shell HAS to be empty.
What I ended up doing is making a brace bar to go inside and out of the rear panel to take the load off the panels.

Front end is easily enough mounted up though.

I was thinking more of significant damage to upper body panels

Possibly even write-off if the cabin gets dropped on its head and deforms sufficiently
