Toyota Yaris 1.3 CDX (2002).

Post by Envoy CDX »

Well, train tickets booked and early Saturday morning, I set off to go and pick up the new member of the "fleet" - I use the word fleet in its loosest possible terms you understand.

Cav - in bits
Corsa - dead or trying to be dead
SAAB - MOT list as long as my arm of bits that need sorting.

So, I am relieving Mr Robsey of his Yaris - here's hoping it's as fun as I think it's going to be eh?

Whats everyone else up to this weekend then?

This weekend ?

Amazingly, I am going to let my Yaris go to a new home in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

It is a good little car, that is quite specced up for a little runabout.

And there are quite a few coincidences involved.

The trim level is a CDX, so quite high up the list with remote central locking, air-conditioning and alloy wheels.

The original radio does not work, so I have fitted a cheap Sony CDX radio so that there is music to help those miles pass.
See where we are going with this?

Envoy "CDX" is buying a Yaris "CDX" and the radio is a Sony "CDX".

What Gary doesn't know, is that the link between the previous two owners is the name Gary...
The previous owner for about ten days was my eldest sister.
The owner before her was her mother-in-law Claire. Claire had the car between 2005 and just after new year this year.

Claire's son and my sister's husband was a special man called Gary (not Envoy CDX).
So somehow it all fit's happily into place.

A cheap runabout / potential fixer-upper with 10 months MOT.
Something to help keep Envoy mobile.

Sadly not a Vauxhall, but quite a capable stand-in.

Aye, it'll be safe :)
Think a break from Vauxhall's is what is required - been driving a Carina E round for the past week and it's just been "fun".

Allows me to concentrate on things too moving forward.

Sounds like a plan...

If the Cavalier wasn't due to return in a few weeks, it is more than likely that I would have kept the Yaris.

But the Cav is due back soon, and Gary was suddenly finding his long ailing Corsa throwing in the towel.

Somehow - I feel a lot of Karma coming in to play.

The Yaris does need a few bits of TLC, but nothing that demands financial ruin.

Supercharger, twin turbos etc. ;)

Hopefully, driving it will make you miss Cavalier enough to see your project thread(s) resurrected, hehe! :)

Looks like a fun little runaround. One of my friends has had a basic 1.0 since he first started driving in 2010.
It's been very cheep and reliable for him, far more so than my LS Cav I must say.

Apart from some panel damage on the passenger side, a few other body work issues and scabby alloys, the Yaris is a good little car...

As I write this, the pocket rocket is on it's way up the M6 to it''s new home with it's new owner.

Bye bye little friend :)

Thats mainly down to cash flow currently :( that said, now I don't have the corsa sucking my financial soul out of me, maybe, just maybe I'll be able to start getting some cash back into the Cav pot.

Well, the Yaris is now my only vehicle (sadly). So I should probably focus some attention on it and fix her up, as she's been a little neglected

It is a great car. I loved owning it for two months.

It has the same bhp as the C18NZ, despite only being a 1300cc 16 valve engine.

Did you ever get the radio to work.?
I could never get the Avensis radio to light up...

Nah, tried a couple of times then went DAB. interior needs straightening back up, it munches miles and I've nursed the clutch for 3 years just less than 7k a year so.. it got more and more neglected. Now the clutch is done, I need to look at what's causing the rumbling and weird rotational thump

I had a rumble and shudder from the Vectra recently.
Turned out to be tyres that were so worn, that one tyre deflated itself.
They must have been like jelly - hence the noisy shuddering.

At my age, I just don't get down to floor level anymore, so didn't realise how bad things got.

Very embarrassing for a club admin - oops.

I take it, that you did get round to doing that near side rear bearing... it was droning a little when you picked up the car in 2017.

Didn't they pick uyp the tyres on the MOT? You normally get a warning is they are getting low.

MOT was 50 weeks ago, so a lot of miles covered since then, but not enough to cause that much wear.

I thought that they would have spotted any problems...
But they were not my usual garage.
So I cannot say definitively who is more at fault...
Well I can, me!! As the driver, I am responsible for driving a defective vehicle.

I work for the NHS.
Clinical Rehabilitation Engineer..
I travel all over Manchester and Trafford, visiting wheelchair users throughout the local area.
Apart from April and May 2020, I have been attending to our vulnerable service users the whole time.

Even during April and May, we were giving office based emergency support.

I also spent some time assisting on one of the non-covid wards.

Apologies for the thread diversion Gary.

Aye both have been done now (woo). Front's are on the way out now, and I think a CV joint.

State of the roads, anything could be at fault currently.

This is a random time of year to start tinkering.
My usual excuse of too wet, or too windy starts to kick in at this time of year.

Looking forwards to loads of pictures of your progress / antics :)
