Numpty strikes again!

I have just bought a passenger side door lock operating motor as part of my remote central locking project...
Nothing special in that.

However, I was putting in my switch for the bluetooth module, so that I can leave it switched off when it is not needed.
The voice sounds quite annoyed when it says "goodbye !"

I looked in the boot for a spare switch, and found a box with a passenger side door lock operating motor... dated 6 weeks ago.

I simply cannot remember ordering a complete lock assembly with motor.

I have no idea what happened there. :scratch

Senile old git is back!

I've done that before Rob.

I ordered a set of sill panels a while back completely forgetting that I already had a complete set in the garage!

Better to have too many spare parts than too few.

But only if you know where they are!

Bought a couple of new track rod joints for my old MK2 Astra - to this day I have never found them - had to buy another pair!
Congratulations on the engagement James.

Is this thread is still accepting nominations, and not just self-nominated ones, then can I suggest this ebay seller:

"Fram CA4309 Air Filter (Fits: Cavalier [MK III])"

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 2937830159

One day things might get just that desperate, but this is a USED --a well-used air filter. :o Some points due at least for enterprise, but we're not there yet surely?

That is pretty poor.
I am sure that is probably from a car that has never had the filter changed.

Who would pay for a filter that is clearly beyond knackered.

To be honest, you can nominate anybody...
But I seem to do a lot of silly things - and that is why they are usually about me.

Okay - I am back in the Spot Light for the Numpty award.

After four years of ownership, I have only just discovered that I can plug a USB stick into my smart phone.

Who knew!! ??

I have spent countless hours transferring files from my old XP laptop to an even older Nokia phone, then bluetoothing to my Galaxy S9.
So that I can post on forum threads.

All because my S9 and laptop cannot communicate directly.

I used a memory stick for the first time this morning - plug and play.

Palm slap to forehead.

I'm not an android person, we had so much grief with a few android phones over 10 years ago that it put me off for a long time. Whereas (at the time) everything apple just plugged in and worked.

Probably not the case now, but new samsung phone seem to be even more expensive than apple!! The foldy ones are unreal for price.

They are all stupidly expensive now - hence why I am still running a 4 year old phone.
I had niggles on early androids where I had to do full factory resets a few times.
Annoying, but having back-ups helps.

Apple devices are just totally alien to me.
I just get by with an early iPad Air - used for programming electric wheelchairs and a few other online apps that my android sometimes grumbles about.

For many years I used good old Nokia basic phones.
I got my first Android (Galaxy S2) because the wife wanted me to be the smart phone guinea pig.
Learning android was a challenge at the time, but Apple just seems to be even more challenging. Lots of restrictions and lack of expansion on many devices made them even less desirable.

After all that, the wife only got an Android a couple of years ago after years of problems with Nokia Microsoft phones. (Windows 8 and then 10, I think) yikes.

She now prefers my 7 year old Galaxy S4 Mini.

After all this - you could say that I could update to a compatible laptop.
I did have a newish Win 10 laptop in 2016.
But two years later a Microsoft update killed it dead - blue screen of death, losing 12 years of stored work, photos and memories.

Although I use Win 10 at work (NHS), I far prefer the ease and reliability of XP. Especially for all my car-based programs. TIS2000, EPC3, VauxCom, ELM327, ForScan, ElsaWin and so on.
Of course I remember the days when XP was the current system, and it crashed for fun.

But then I am old enough to remember Windows 3.1.

And many more long gone systems...
CBM, BBC and good old ZX stuff.

You should have been able to recover anything off the laptop if it had a blue screen of death, just by plugging it into another PC. Or if corrupted, then linux is very good at recoving much of the data.

I had a macbook for work for a number of years, and used to travel the world for a time with work, the apple stuff was more reliable at the time and you dont want to be let down when in central china or phillipines needing a lift.

Windows7 was a good replacement to XP, pretty much everything I've tried on it works on windows 7.
Again, I must be similar age to you, had a bbc, zx81 before that. Learned serious programming in DOS before windows was any good.

I have had a few offers from friends to fix it.
Assuming I haven't faffed too much with it already.

I followed a few online videos and guides to repair the Win 10 installation without deleting the files, which seemed to make it worse. So I have left it alone since.

Maybe one day I will get it sorted.
