And The Numpty Of The Week Is!!

Me !!

I have been driving round for months with a new wiper on the back.
Nowt special there you might say.

I was very disappointed about how badly the wiper cleared the rear screen.

I have been a bit peeved by the wiper blade sliding out of the top of the frame, having to slide it back once a week.
"Cheap s#!¥ !! " is my thought.
Even though they are meant to be some brilliant highly rated make.
(I had bought three, but only fitted the rear at the moment).
I looked today, and the blade was 6" out of the top end of the frame - or was it?

It was then that I realised that it was not the blade, but a plastic cover.

I slid the cover off completely to reveal a nice clean rubber blade.
What an idiot !! - ha ha

You are most welcome..
My ... erm... pleasure

I would suggest doing a weekly "Numpty" competition, but you would get bored of me featuring too often.

Ha ha. :p

It just proves that it doesn't matter how clever you are meant to be...
(I am not clever by the way... )
Everyone can make the daftest mistakes.

To be honest, I have never seen a plastic cover before....

We've all done stupid things.

Well at least it has kept the wiper blade in good condition until you needed it.

I put some new bosch ones on the V6 about 4 months ago. I've barely used then until now and they are already skipping slightly, I think the sun has got to them.

Do you want to buy some protective slide-over covers - ha ha :p

For clarification - that is not a euphamism.

Numpty-Man strikes again...

I have been re-installing windows xp on my old laptop, so that I can reinstall my car related programs.

Anyway came to an issue whilst installing drivers.
The disc drive would not see the disc... hmm
Put a different disc and it worked straight away.
Scratches head ...

After 30 minutes of tatting about, it suddenly dawned on me.
The non responsive discs were all dvd's.
My disc drive is only for cd's.

D'oh!!

A less numpty issue I have is that my sd card slot cannot read cards bigger than 2 Gb and my usb port cannot open memory sticks bigger than 2Gb.

Odd - they were fine before the format and reinstallation..

:wall

For those interested I am installing my 9 versions of OpCom / Vauxcom and GlobalTis v25 and v34.

They are not particular fans of my win 10 laptop and the VMWare can at times be a tad slow.

Looks like I will have all day to investigate.
Deep drifting snow means no way I can get to work.
I am not even in any of the yellow warning zones.
Keep safe out there.

Our mainland friends are probably laughing, especially in Finland as they get this all the time, and just carry on as normal.

I still have XP Home on my desktop which I only use for music and games, and I have XP Pro on my spare laptop alongside Linux, still a good operating system in my opinion even if it doesn't get updated, like the Cavaliers, it's old because it's been doing it's job well for a long time!

Robsey, not sure if you've tried it or not, but you could always use another computer/laptop to copy the data from the DVD discs to a flash USB drive and just transfer them over that way.

Yep I am doing that...(banging stuff onto memory sticks)

But I also found a slim-line exrernal dvd read-writer hidden in an old box.
So progress is now being made.

It is more software related, not VM related.

Overall VM works very well.

At the moment though Java (jnlp) is refusing to work.. which is a pain as everything in GlobalTIS uses JNLP to run and display the local host pseudo web pages.

Any error logs Rob? If I recall you can run the app in compatibility mode, something like Win98/2000 may have it running in a better fettle?

I think it sees it more as a security issue.
Windows doesn't trust a lot of Java stuff.

I'll put my thinking cap on, there were ways in days gone by to put exceptions in to allow certain things such as local installed files and other bits. It's just been a wee while.

Are you thinking of DPE or DPA?
Whatever it is...

Don't worry. It isn't urgent.
I will only be using GlobalTIS for 2008 to 2013 wiring diagrams and programming values for Tech2 / GlobalTIS / TIS2Web / GDI etc.

My main program has always been TIS2000 for vehicles between 1987 to 2007.
