How Fast?

Post by cavchris »

i havent been online for a while, mainly because its unlikley that i'm going to get my cav before we move to australia next year, will have to get a cortina (they are awesome)

anyway, want to 'spark some interest' as someone put it!
how fast do you reckon your cav can go? and how fast have you gone?

in my dads old gls, on holiday, we got up to 90ish ******************** and went over a crest in the road and somehow broke the cluch cable... again, we broke it the day before aswell :P
and in anglesey we went about 125ish in an unmodified car! it was years ago, i may be slightly out...

go on then, tell us!

according to total vauxhall mag the figures for 2 litre and 2.5 v6's are as follows

early 2l 8 valve sri (seh) 128mph (ne) 127mph

2l 16v (xe) sri 137mph
2l 16v (xev) sri ecotec 132mph
2l 16v (c20let) turbo gsi 149mph
2.5 v6 (c25xe) 145mph

these figures differ by a mile an hour or so depending on which model of cav and the condition it is in ...ie 4x4 a touch slower, sha*ged engine ...etc

your dads gls sounds about right .

my xe does what it says  so the figures are quite accurate

i never hit 137 in my xe ones, 130 was easy but you had to carry on pushing it to get it above that.

Anyone doing 35+ on a 30 is a complete moron in my opinion - I think its fair to say we've all fractured the occasional speeding law at some point, but 30's are rarely 30's for no good reason.

35, is probably being lenient, but it does happen.

Agreed... more than 35 in a 30 is stupid, and yes we all have better brakes than 30 years ago etc etc, but reaction speeds can only be so fast... however I never did 135 in the cav on the motorway and I'm sure it won't do more than 145... the f25 coupled to the 6 is capable of over 160, if you have the power.

The Dippy i managed to do a track day in it at RAF Odiham and tops i saw that was 115 going up the runway before the chicane at the end. That was a fantastic day out that and it cost me absolutely sod all for 5 laps. Only problem with it was the GT4's and Elise's overtaking

totally agree with that Squig.
i absolutely loved bombing along that road when we went to Wales. it has to be my favourite road that ive ever driven down, and i cant wait to drive down it next time i go to wales in the new year!

on the subject of topspeeds, the fastest i ever had my first cav (now Mikes cavy), a 1.8 GL saloon on a pierburg carburetor, upto was 110mph .

i had my 1.8 16v vectra upto 137mph. only car ive had flat out.

i didnt really push the carlton past 100mph when i had it, think the most i had out of it was about 105.

i had 110mph out the astra, just to see if it would actually do it without blowing up.

as for my cavy V6, i dont think ive had it past 110mph.

i dont make a habit of speeding, i stick to speed limit in towns/villages,
my driveway's like a 1986 vauxhall forecourt lol (apart from my mk3 cav's!

Leeds - Darlington in the 1.8i LS

I 'allegedly' backed off the pedal at 108mph (103mph on the TOMTOM)
Was 'allegedly' keeping up with my mates '04 Vectra C upto 90 then he started pulling away...
The Vectra 'allegedly' toped at 126mph if your interested.

On the same journey i 'allegedly' kept up with a J ('91) BMW (E30) 318i,
was creeping up on the BMW with maybe a 5mph to spare.
Good to know the old girl can still pull the wool over the eyes of a 'superior' car of its day.

But i 'allegedly' got the biggest smiles for my miles when i 'allegedly' would leave the Saxo / clio crew standing at the lights.
Not that i condone speeding or racing....
I cannot wait to have her back on the road, again.

think the fastest journey i did, was from my house to Mikes, on good friday this year on the Easter Weekend (as me and some of mine/his mates were ment to be going to skegness for a week a few days later, but Mike decided to call me at 7pm on good friday, when i was 100 miles from home watching banger racing, that he had moved the day we were going forward, and gave me all of 3 minutes notice lol, so i ended up driving 370miles straight, with 1 stop for petrol, 1 stop to get my stuff, and 1 stop to get Mike lol) but anyway, i covered some miles from my house to Mikes in 45mins. not that i ever plan on doing a journey like that again soon, without some sort of warning before hand. lol.

"Was it down to one of these that a forum member on a VX220 Website got done for speeding??

im a bit worried because of who can see it (mainly every Tom Dick and Harry regardless of whether they are logged in or not) and the outcome that 'could' come of it"

- posted by Daves.veccy in staff forum...
I would ask users of this site to remember this is a PUBLIC forum and everyone will a computer and access to the internet can view these threads... IF YOU GET PROSECUTED BECAUSE OF A POST YOU SUBMITTED TO THIS FORUM IT'S YOUR OWN FAULT.

So lets keep it assumed that we all drive at the correct speeds on our roads and save the lunacy for trackdays, don't want to sound like a killjoy but I'm sure you'd all like to keep the license clean... ish.

why have my posts been censored, but no one elses have?

anyway, the road we did 90 on wasnt in a town or anything, there were no houses, no pavements, no other cars, nothing, just us and the road. i think i worded it badly.
it was years and years ago, so like i said, i may have been a bit off.

If there was language in them, they would be censored. I can't remember the original posts so I can't say for sure.

Either way, they have been censored for good reason.

That was I... if you want to post specific details of when and where you broke the law on a PUBLIC forum that's fine but I will probably edit or remove it... you weren't the only one I edited, almost every post was fiddled with, yours was the only one I couldn't reword... It was 1am-ish that I was messing...

i managed to scratch the soft underbelly of triple figures. and it took four junctions on the "autobahn" to do that. methinks somethings not right
Theres a fine line between stupid and visionary. You just have to be a visionary to see it.
