Got headlight wipers on my CD, look period, suit the car, part of its spec, but not sure I would fit them if not fitted.

If you have the full kit to fit them, and you are happy with the work involved, then it would be a nice upgrade.
Not sure how often you need to wash your head lights though.

I do like them on the car but some seem to think if they weren't on out of the factory dont do it.

Apparently they came on the 1991 and some 1992. Mine is a 1993 tho there is a plug behind each head light which i only assume that's what they are for.

I can the full set including pipes and what not for £35. Used off course.

Anyone know about the springs or even what rear springs would fit. Need for M.O.T.

I can only see lowered springs for the 4x4.

Usually 25mm or 40mm lowered.
Typical prices are £120 to £150 for most makes from ebay sellers.

I got my springs from Demon Tweaks - a lot of money at the time for 30 / 40mm lowered Spax springs for a normal (non 4x4) Cavalier.

By all means ask at your local auto factors.
They may be able to source a decent set of springs for not too much.

I have checked a few motor factors but they cant source any.

Ther is lowering springs on the car but not sure what mm they are. Mot won't pass them with lowering springs.

Should do... my car has 30 / 40mm lowering springs and has an MOT.
(I should say - it will pass the MOT in the UK. Other European territories can be a bit grumpy about modifications to a car.)

I have not heard of a car failing for reasonably lowered springs.
Upto say 40mm drop
(standard SRi spec lowering).

If your garage does fail your car, I would appeal or go to a different garage.

Unless the rules have changed since March 2017 that is.

I say they haven't changed. Im in Northern Ireland and they can be strict enough in the mot centres.

Maybe im wrong, i must ring and see. Seems to be to get standard springs.

Under vehicle checks
Both the front and rear suspension are checked to ensure.
• No split pins or nuts missing, no components broken or bent
• Road springs function effectively, no excessive wear
• Suspension joints function effectively, no excessive wear
• Shock absorbers must not leak and must be secure (the vehicle will be 'bounced' by the Tester to check that they damp the springs adequately).

Suspension is checked for wear by the assistant applying loads in various ways with the wheels jacked up whilst the Tester observes the result from beneath the vehicle.

So assuming that the springs are secure and work properly, with no signs of cracks or breakages, you should be good to go.

I have looked at various manuals and guides.
There does not seem to be a specific wheel arch height.

I am guessing that this is due to the wide choice of wheel and tyre combinations.

Also whether you have a lowered "sports" model such as a Turbo, SRi or GSi,

Or a more run of the mill model such as Envoy, Expression, Classic, L / LS, GL / GLS, CD / CDX or Diplomat.

Then there is smaller engine models with smaller 13" rims.
Standard 14" rims and then alloy 15" rims.

And just for good measure, tyre profiles.

I can measure my LSi with 30 / 40mm lowered Spax springs and 14" steelies with 14 175/70 tyres.

But ideally you need a fellow 4x4 owner to measure theirs for better accuracy.

I have measured the other cav but then its got smaller wheels and different tyres.

I think it looks to have 40mm springs.

Wel hopefully some 4x4 owner wil let me know.

From memory, that does sound about right.

Was the standard 2.0 8 valve 4x4 the same ride height as the GSI / Turbo versions as they have the same independant suspension setups ?

I'll have to check later but I believe the 8v 4x4 had standard height springs so the GSi was a bit lower.
No doubt the 8v 4x4 has different springs to a standard 2WD model but the height was about the same.

Oooh - I stand corrected.

For some reason I was thinking that the 4x4 was the turbo version, so 16 valve LET.
My mistake.

I am sure James will have the correct specs in his library of brochures and manuals.

I suppose it all depends on what tyres are on the car as well and tink i have the wrong tyres on., 205/45/16.

Ok, so looking it up in the sales brochures it does say that there are "specially tunes springs on SRi, GSi and 4x4 models", whatever that means.
Looking at the photos however, the 4x4 looks like it's about the same height as a standard CD/GL/L cav. It's certainly not as low as a GSi.
