HOW MANY MILES HAS SHE DONE?
I am happy to announce that my car has reached safely and without drama along the way 40,000 miles today. truth be told i took the car out to take a photo of this momentous event but due to getting hemmed in with traffic the odometer reached 40003. anyway my brain decided to remind me of what dodgy car dealers could do with an electric drill but i thought of a better way to rectify this drama.
1. Jack up one side of the car.
2. rest the car on an axle stand for safety.
3. start the engine and select reverse gear.
4. lift the clutch peddle and rev the engine to 3000rpm.
5. watch the odometer roll back the 3 miles to attain the photo of 40000 miles to post on this forum.
6. tried to post the photo of the speedo showing mileage but could not manage that task.
7. Ask the very helpful people on here how to post a picture.
8. So, can anyone advise me how to post a photo please.

To ensure it hasn't been faffed with, just check on the direct.gov history check web pages.
We believe you honest.
Until you rolled it back 3 miles of course.

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS SHE DONE?
So to delete miles from an odometer you just drive it in reverse? Surely that can't be possible otherwise everyone would be doing it. I've had the dash binnacle off my old Cavaliers as one had a faulty odometer and tried the cordless drill trick, except winding it the wrong way did not make the odometer count miles. Winding it the correct way made the miles go up.
I'm confused therefore, as I only thought the odometer counts miles in forward drive, not reverse.

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS SHE DONE?
Hi there. my first thought was to reverse the car but the danger of doing that was too high reversing 3 miles. so as i said i thought about the way with one wheel raised off the ground and yes it did work albeit it took about 12 minutes at 3000 rpm to lose the 3 miles i needed for the photo i wanted. but i will try to to be more careful just prior to 50000

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS SHE DONE?
Fair enough, that's a new one for me, well glad you've managed to achieve that, and yes I've been there too, finding a safe place to pull over to take a photo of a good mileage milestone, like 100.000 or 111.111 or something similar, there is a somewhat exciting feeling about doing that.

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS SHE DONE?
Yep - been there, done that.
There are pictures in my WIP showing 222,222 miles and
my proudest moment so far, 250,000 miles.
Still a good few miles from 300,000
but should be there in about 4 years.
Currently 266,066 miles and counting.

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS SHE DONE?
Seemed to remember there being a thread for odometer photos after reading this one a short while back. Maybe someone could kick one off?
Anyway, my car reached a point yesterday where it can almost count to ten;

An interesting odometer and trip meter combination.
Wow, I think my car passed that mileage 20 years ago
Ha ha.

Thanks, have been waiting to do that for ages. I read about your car, it has gone further than the moon.Robsey wrote:An interesting odometer and trip meter combination.

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS SHE DONE?
If we are looking for a running total...
The car was new with 0 miles 1/8/1994.
We bought the car at 23,000 miles 5/12/1995.
I took ownership from my wife at 170,000 on 1/9/2005
I converted the dash to digital at 207,400 in Feb 2009
Next mile stone was 222,222 miles in Nov 2010
Then I converted from C18NZ to C20NE in summer 2011 at 225,000 miles.
Then on 20th Feb 2014, I reached the quarter million mark.
I am at present knocking the high 266,000 miles.
Here is my dash when I fitted the cruise set up at 265,000 miles.
And just for fun, here is my digi dash going through it's test procedure.
I hope you like my brief history rundown.

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS SHE DONE?
Another milestone passed.
270,000 miles.
I don't do as many miles per year now, so expect it to be about 2022 before I hit the 300,000 mile mark.
Apologies, but it wasn't safe to photograph the Odometer at the exact / correct mileage.
I was either late for work due to traffic, or somewhere on the M60 motorway.
So I had to wait until I got back in the car at work, before starting the journey home again.

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS SHE DONE?
Aparently, I could reach the other side of the moon in approx 242,183 miles.Mk3alan wrote:Could have visited the Chinese on the dark side of the moon at that milage!

238,855 miles on average to the moon, and then another 3,328 to travel half way round the surface to the opposite side.
Apologies, I had to check out the theory. Ha ha.
Or go around the circumference of the earth 10.86 times.

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS SHE DONE?
I'm not observant enough regarding mileage usually but because of this post I noticed I was only a couple of miles away from repeating numbers.
-That's just a trip to asda and back - it was minus temperatures so the engine didn't even heat by the time I got home and took the pic.
Why does it take a woman 3 hours to buy the same stuff, in the same store they visit week after week

That's good going with that sort of mileage, and those digi-dashes still look cool 30+ years on !

The engine was replaced at 225,000 miles with one that had only 75,000 on it.
So the current engine only has about 120,000 miles on it.
And the car had a major restoration approx 8000 miles ago.
The only original parts are the gearbox, drive shafts, all four wheel hubs, 3 of the doors, 2 windows, the dash and heater complete with matrix, sunroof, interior plastics and the head-lining.
Oh and my very shiny steering wheel.
Eek!!

Nothing wrong with a bit of genuine patina - shows it's been enjoyed!

Re: HOW MANY MILES HAS SHE DONE?
I seem to be hogging this thread...
About 13:50 today driving southbound on Princess Road (A5103), I reached the 275,000 mark.
This is the mileage when I got to work.
275,004 miles.
I promise no more hogging until I hit 300,000 in about 3 year's time.
I do not do half as many miles per year, as I used to.
