Post by blowfelt »

Please, could someone help me,we have a Vauxhall Corsa (besides the Cavalier) and the engine oil caps is leaking.I bought a new O ring seal for the cap,but the new O ring seal has make the oil cap leak even more.

Any suggestions on how to stop the leak would be much appreciated.

For the cost of replacement,
I would have thought that a complete cap would have been not much more expensive than the seal on it's own.

Is the seal for the correct engine?

I suspect that there may be differences between engine sizes, and whether twin-port or not.

If you send me your vin,
Engine type,
and the part number you bought,
I can check to see if you got the correct part.

Just pm or email me... don't post on here.

As an interim measure,
Cut out a piece of card, such as from a corn-flake packet.

Use the old (or new) seal as a template.

Then fit the cardboard ring,
Followed by the seal to your cap.

The extra thickness may be enough to stop it leaking.

Also check any breather hoses for blockage, whilst you are there.

The oil cap on the Corsa is different to the Cav.Below is a link to the cap we have on the Corsa.

Hopefully a new cap will cure it. When I bought my Jag, the oil filler cap leaked. A new seal made it worse if anything. I found a new one purchased off ford cured it,and was at the time about £10 cheaper than being in jaguar packaging. If that doesn't cure it and you check for a blocked breather then you may have bottom end trouble. I would always go for the cheaper options first though.
