2 year old cav sri with a misfire- blast from the past.

Post by droofer »

just a little story about when i was an apprentice many moons ago working for a vw dealership.
we sold a 1991 cavalier sri, only a couple of years old, and it came back with a misfire, i think it was a 2ltr 8 valve, one of our tecs was working on it, and could not get the misfire to stop , end of, so we rang the vauxhall dealer a few miles up the road, and they booked it in for a tech 1?? session.
i was the person who had to drop it off at the dealer, and by now the thing had gone into limp mode, there was also the matter of the mancunian way inbetween our dealer and theirs.
anyhoos it was running like a bag of poo, kept cutting out, etc, so i thought id try and give it some beans on the manky way.
i scared the shit oputta myself with the thing, being an apprentice, it was by far the quickest thing id ever driven and this was in limp home mode!! i was well impressed with it and added it to my cars im gonna own one day list.unfortunatley 8 faulted crashes in my first 7 years of driving put paid to anything above a 1.3 for me for many years to come.
so alas no sri.I did own a white one around 1997/8, but due to it not being insured, and it being a complete dog-literally-back seat was :sick . i didnt use it, dont think i ever saw a crustier one. 8-)

i know, i aint proud either!, thats what minis do to you, used to buy them, tune them, or put a 1275 in them, then crash them, sorted the majority out by paying for some of the damage myself, it decided to stop thinking that i was a driver in the italian job, when i wrote a citroen BX off by hitting it from behind at approx 28 mph :o ,pushed boot floor up, did the suspension spheres in,the guy was like a contortionist after the crash looking under his car, up into the arches etc, but apparently, he was nearly crippled becase of the whiplash!, BIG BIG claim that one,im glad to say i now have 10 years ncb(touch wood) and have been a good boy since. :D

The joys of a frivellous youth...
Think many of us picked up a few bumps in our early days...

I had two "at fault" bumps within 6 months of passing my test in 1989... :no
Not had another fault claim in 21 years... :cool

So, what caused the mis-fire in the Cavalier ? Do tell :raindeer
