nearly £1000!

That is a lot cheaper than it could have been.
I knew a lad (37 yrs old) had a 1.2 1997 Fiat Punto
He was quoted £1700 for Third Party Fire & Theft...
No consolation Gary, but I still pay too much, despite more than 20 yrs without a fault claim...
I can only declare 9 yrs no claims bonus - Pah !!!
I am also considered to be in a relatively low risk area...
Insurance is unfair - you need to speakto PlanetC, isn't Paul's wife an insurance expert..?

The problem comes from the size of the claims made. Take Aviva as an example, who are paying out more in claims than they take in premiums, running at a loss with their car insurance business. Hire cars and personal injury claims have sent the payouts sky high in recent years, they don't just pay the cost of repairs anymore.
Although it may seem so, it's not unfair, the risk is calculated on previous claims experience of age, gender, car and area (and probably other stuff I know naff all about). The Max Power culture is partly to blame, encouraging younger drivers to drive beyond their level of experience. How many 25 year olds these days have never had a claim?
Then when it does go wrong people maximise their payback. I met a girl a while back that was driving a hire car, paid for by her insurance, who were jostling over a claim with another insurance company. She had been driving the hire car for six months and wasn't bothered how long it went on because someone else was paying for her to drive a nice car!
If you ran a business would you run it at a loss?

little rant from me
What gets on my tits is the young lot who go driving about in cars bought by their daddies and mummies, insured by their daddies and mummies, which puts them into a certain state of mind thinking they can drive wherever, however, disregarding road rules or vehicle maintenance. And when it all goes wrong, they go off to their daddies and mummies crying, feeling sorry for themselves, then a year later they go do it again, expecting another fairy world of driving. It's all of us decent law-abiding, motorists, who pay our own money to run our pride and joys that always take the brunt when it comes to renewal.
I don't have anything against learner drivers, but when I see a beat up old micra or a ford ka, or a fiesta, with
P plates, with some young tart and all her stupid fairy friends in the back, with pink hub caps speeding around, I just think to myself... that's another statistic soon to be. Not a positive one at that.
back to original topic
£1000? that is heavy

I'm paying just over a grand for both my Cavs. And there's me wanting a 3rd one.

But because my cars a separate on the same multi-car policy, the auto LS works out just over £400, which is quite good. Still trying to figure out why the other cav is over £600

Insurance companies are getting wise to this too, they load the premium based on the young driver.

I should think they ought to do that.

I suppose that it is just so demoralising for "reasonable" drivers to be paying for these young loons in their chavved up pocket rockets...
Even my insurance went up miles this year - or at least it would have done
43 years (well in a month), no fault claims in 21 years, old model vehicle (more than 10 yrs old), with no performance modifications....
I don't know how the younger ones get insured at all...
Shopping around does help, but I know Gary spent hours last night, trying his best to get it under £1000, when he'd been quoted only £700 a fortnight ago...
Another price hike is the body shops...
Via insurance = £800, the same job paid cash = approx £120
This is an example from my friends / colleagues exploits.
Body shops will get as much as they can screw from the insurance companies.
It's all just totally crazy...

Don't forget the possibly biggest cause of insurance premium hikes....Fraudulent claims

That's what I call utterly selfish and damn right disgusting. I hope they all get caught out someday soon to save the rest of us a massive headache.

well I rang Admiral this afternoon after getting a quote somewhere near what I was willing to pay.
£750, fully comp, one off payment. Not great, but it'll have to do.
Asked them if they would remove the courtest car, windscreen cover and various other jazz I wasn't interested in - They wouldn't
quote is secured til lthe 27th of March, so I may do a bit of additional shopping later on.

My insurance is due to expire on the 8th March, never made any claims on car insurance and have been driving for over 34 years but i'm expecting a big price hike as is the norm at the moment.
We all have to pay for the uninsured driver, better if they fined these people heavier in court to pay for their crime, why should I be punished for their lack of respect for British law.

max power culture has sod all to do with it, its just young people showing off, lets face it at 17 your still a kid and if you give anyone a radio controlled car they will crash it and 17 year olds do the same with any car they just arnt that responsible end of.
Bodyshop bills are different from normal bills as insurance jobs demand a different repair, ie a small dent in a door for a normal customer you can hammer flat then fill to perfection on an insurance job you have to replace the door its madness.
Insurance companies had it all there own way for years, you pay your premium, when they are needed they either tell you your not covered or a massive excess and when they do pay out its a fraction of what you need to replace the given car.

Back in the day we had Cars and Car Conversions, and the original Fast Car. Modifying was less common. Max Power magazine was introduced and the kids were taught to drive it like you stole it. Other magazines copied and a new era was born. I accept that it's not entirely due to the culture that has been bred, but I don't agree that it has sod all to do with it.

ADrian flux and Brent Acre are good. Tho the stupid thing is you can get a modified cavalier insured cheaper than a standard one. Thats what I found. If you modify it they think you are going to look after it. Other wise they think you are driving a cheap old car and there for don't care if you crash it.
If you have a garage and standard car and are over a certain age try a classic insurer.
I was quoted £250 a year on a standard cavalier turbo
But cheapest I cold get with a heaviely modified 3.0 v6 was £400

Renewal is stupid at the moment nearly £1000!
wowsers i pay less than that on all my cars together fully comp... classic insurance if you can find one that will allow you to commute to work, although expect limited mileage.
comparison sites is the way to go really, auto renewal quotes are always daft.
