So what`s the going rate then?

Post by psl »

Been keeping an eye on gsi cav`s, and there have been a few nice ones come up. Prices seem all over the place. What is the going rate now a days for a really good clean one that needs no work, just a polish on a sunday afternoon ;)

Is there a going rate? I thought it was just as much as you're willing to pay...? :?

Isn't that like asking what the going rate for an LS is? :D

From what I've seen, very tidy examples average £4k or under. All depends on the individual one though. I'd say if anything, completely standard original ones would be worth more, but Martin's right too..

Am I a light sleeper or a heavy sleeper? Well that depends on how much I've had to drink...

Most of whats left will either collectors or cr"p, but most will be bought to restore.
I remember this with the sapphire cosworths the going rate was 4k for a good one
now they are averaging double that evening the rs500 in good nick can cost up of 40k
the price will go up for good ones, average one 2k plus
These are now classics regardless of what people say about them

 I agree. If your selling then there worth as much as you can get for it conditon wise. And if your buying then its worth as much as you can get it for.

no that's the (top end) turbo money. a really good gsi will probably set you back nearer £1200 or so.

thing is you see these cavalier GSi's advertised at those kind of prices but they sit there for ages, the ones that do "sell", how much for? bet it was no where near the asking price. GSi cavalier simply don't fetch that kind of money, not yet anyway. As said thats turbo money.

that might be what he's advertising it for but that's not realistic gsi money atm. a low mileage turbo in excellent condition would be nearer that price in todays climate. even excellent turbos struggle to sell for 4k; in fact a 50k mile one sold recently for less than 3k. while i appreciate that prices have fluctuated as numbers have dropped (and as the economy has bounced around) 3.5k is an unrealistic price for that gsi in todays market. then again, if someone wants to buy it THAT badly then fair play to him, and who knows what tomorrow's market will look like! also, the car might have had a fortune spent on it and the owner is trying to claw back some investment which could explain the price?
