Why would bits be built up on a brand new shell before it was painted, why would you do the bay and put the engine in before doing the body?

Those pictures tell an odd story

the shell is the 'new' bit. all the panels and everything else are salvage as obviously the shell is .... just the shell. made enquiries about the shell myself when it was up for sale.

there are a few good looking gsi's on the bay at the moment. it looks as though people think this whole car is new, engine and all. bizarre. nice example and all, but...

Re: brand new gsi shell

dunno. lets say a good respray inside and out is gonna cost you 2k or more, plus the shell was for sale for £800 when i enquired about it (that was three years ago shortly before it was sold), well that takes us up to the current list price. his buy it now is £3.5k, so thats 700 quid on top of the cost of the shell and the paint. so out of that 700 you could buy your c20xe and all the other bits fairly easily and build the car again. perhaps im being naiive, but it doesnt seem to represent massively good value, unless you take into consideration the availability of IRS shells, or any for that matter. dunno, i'd still take the money and hold out for a good turbo.

oh, i already did.

iam justing seeing this tread now lads,
just 2 clear a few things up

this was a brand new shell that the last man bought
he had spent a fortune on the car

with rebuilding the engine
shell
painting the inside and engine bay
suspension and stuff.

he sold it because he was going 2 us it as his wedding car
but the wife 2b ran away wiv his brother.

he had started painting the car in westminster blue,
but i decided to finish it in spectral blue,
and i did not redo the inside or the engine bay,
because no one will see the inside and the engine bay is not
2 bad looking in a darker shade.

i no what the car is costing me because i have it all wrote down,
and if anyone wants to see it iam more than happy to send them it,

£3500 wont look at it
the paint job cost £2800 alone

Greetings! So do you still have the car? Rotten luck that the missus ran away with his brother... did you buy the car off of Ryan Giggs by any chance?!

Have you done much to the car since trying to sell last year? I wondered if you'd decided to keep it and continue work or hold tight until someone bought it? Thanks for the update either way :)
