Cavalier GSI Identification

Post by pete123 »

Is there a way to check a GSI is a genuine gsi?

I've sold mine on ebay and now the would be buyer is trying to wriggle out of the deal by saying it comes up on a check he has done as an SRI?

I'm guessing its just an error on the database and its been entered incorrectly as im sure plenty others have also. I'd just like to go back to the bloke with some evidence that it is in fact a genuine GSI.

As an example i know very early mk4 astra sri's were down on the log books as gsi's even though some were badged as SRi's

Any help would be very welcomed.

I'd it has independent rear suspension, aka not a solid beam, then it's a gsi

If its got a beam then it's a replica!

Do a VIN check too. But as the others say, IRS denotes GSi.

The Saloon had 2 body styles, which related to the rear suspension, and can only be noticed by getting down on the floor and looking.

Beam rear suspension body could be any trim level from base to diplomat including SRi with engines ranging from 1.4 8V to 2.5 24V V6 and all engine varients including diesel inbetween.

Independent rear suspension style body, could be had in 4 basic models with various trim, but were essentially the 2.0 SEH 130 BHP 8V (as in the early SRi), but with 4x4 and L trim and steel wheels with 195x60x14 tyres, the FWD XE 150 BHP Gsi, the 4x4 XE 150 BHP Gsi, and the 4x4 LET 208 BHP turbo.

Of all the cavaliers the 8v 4x4 is my favorite. :love
