The cav split a fuel line today. 200 yards from the house on the way home. With all the mileage I've done, all the journeys taken, how did it know to break a stones throw from home?
In a similar vein, I once drove a nova from Manchester, and as I put it in reverse at home to park, it sheared the cambelt.

How do they know?
Theres a fine line between stupid and visionary. You just have to be a visionary to see it.

Re: How do they know?
It is strange how things like that happen. Can't even number the faults or glitches that happened to my auto just as I returned home from somewhere.
Among the most memorable was when I went country side cruising one rainy Sunday, couple of years back, my favourite driving weather, nice 50 mile blast around Swanage/Wareham way, came back and a couple of miles from home, what turned out to be the alternator packed in, over-charging at first, dash lights were glowing like the sun, making all sorts of wining noises, got home, turned it off, got the alternator tester out, re-started, showed no voltage so I knew the alternator packed up. The water level dropped significantly as well but that was due to a failing radiator.
There were other small bits and bobs, but I know exactly where you're coming from. It's weird. Can't explain it really.

Re: How do they know?
Wife used to drive a frontera, which the flywheel parted company with the crank on, just as I started it up following a request to check the strange noise it had been making for days!
"No the temperature gauge doesn't work........
we've driven 150 miles today........
the heater went cold last Thursday........
they check the level when it's serviced don't they?"

Re: How do they know?
my cav decided it didn't want a complete exhaust just as i put it in reverse to get on my drive. it sheared the flange from the down pipe that connects to the cat.
it also decided that it didn't want any ball bearings in the wheel bearing after a couple of months driving 48 mile each way to work and back, it spat them out on the driveway and cost me 6 days off work + a new bearing and hub.
she has been fairly good otherwise just the odd niggly problems that have caused limp home problems like when i went to the local shop for 1 item came out the shop started her up and she spat he alternator belt off lol.
she has got a right temper and doesn't like any new parts all the problems ive had have been just after treating her to something new then she breaks something completely unrelated to the new part just so it causes a headache then once that is repaired everything is fine again. it's almost like she is saying "you forgot this part, so I'm gonna
" lol

Re: How do they know?
Bit of the other way round this one:
Had a blazing row with wifey, i mean doors banging and calling each other every name under the sun.
Thought fook this, and went to the garage to get in my car, opened the door, jumped in and went to start
NOTHING!
Then bashed over but no fire,
I had to rather sheepishly go back in.
As if the car was saying " Now that wasnt nice, go back in and say sorry."

Re: How do they know?
I have had plenty of times like that,
One of them being the cam decided to seize about 4 foot from my drive after driving back from pod,
Other having drove 4 hours from Portsmouth to Wigan I got home parked it up and she didnt start again after changin alsorts the coilpack had given up.
Its mad how things like that happen

Re: How do they know?
In my youth, I used to go to lots of pop concerts. I was driving my Mrk 1 Cavalier Coupe then. He took me hundreds of miles, and always got me to gigs...but often used to befall some misfortune on our way home. One time I broke the key off in the steering lock...RAC had to hot wire it for me to get me home...
Another time the back half of the exhaust fell off, and I sounded like a Corvette all the way home...
Have had an alternator pack up.
Headlights only working on side lights.
Starter jammed. whacked it with a hammer and he was fine.
Best of all, though....unknown to me, one of the heater pipes had popped off, and there was no water in him.... I kept smelling something burning (my nose doesn't work too well though), and after a week or so I realised he was dry as a bone.
Booked his engine a few times. If you pushed him hard, a pipe would pop off...but I got used to it.
But he just kept on going...and going...and going.
Sadly, the tinworm took him in the end.
