Swapping an airbag module.

Post by Robsey »

Just a quick query - or two...

Has anyone simply fitted a replacement airbag module / ecu?

Or

Has anyone tried clearing an airbag light on a vehicle fitted with a 10 pin aldl socket.

I know that OpCom reports to connect to the airbag via pin 7 of a 16 pin eobd connector.
I have a replacement module on the way, but TIS advises that it will need programming in with Tech 1,
Otherwise a code 51 fault will be logged.
All seems a lot of a pain...

So Tech 1 to fix / diagnose my current air bag ecu...
Or Tech 1 to program in a replacement.

So again - anyone any experience of clearing a fault light on a mid-90's "Airbag S" module.
Calibra / Frontera-A / Astra-F...

To answer my own question...

sorted the airbag fault for the huge sum of £12.
This was the cheapest "honest" method to sort the permanent airbag light.

I disconnected the car battery.
Waited 15 minutes.
Swapped out the old airbag ecu, and fitted my 12 quid replacement.
Waited another 5 or so minutes, just in case.

Connected up the car battery and turned on the ignition.
Blimey those 4 seconds go on forever when you are waiting for the light to go off.
But go off it did.
Woohoo - one box on the fail sheet ticked.

Under the centre console in front of the bits tray but behind the hand-brake lever.

Under the black plastic box behind the hand brake.
See the yellow covered loom cable
