sounds like it could be a faulty switch, it doesnt work unless the ignition is on/engine is running (its one or the other)

does the switch stay depressed or does it return to the same position? and if you hold the switch in does the screen eventually demist?

well when i brought the car every switch had a blue led bulb inside so i changed every switch back to standard and i recall it did exactly the same with the old blue led switch, ive never held it down for long enough to see if the window demists but im pretty sure its not the switch at fault as its done it with 2 switches, could be 2 faulty switches but unlikley,is there a relay that controlls it?

Have you checked the rear screen to ensure all the tracks are intact, and that the wires either side are connected? maybe it's had a rear screen in the past and they didn't connect them back up?

Another thing you can do if you have a test metre is check the voltage going across the rear screen with the demist switch pushed in - should be between 12 - 14v.

i couldnt see if the wires were intact on the screen cos the trim looked awkard to remove,i tryed test ing for continuety across the screen and to see if its getting power but with out removing the trim the multi meter couldnt make contact as where the wires go into the screen its is coated and not bare metat,il remove the trim next weekend and try again
