Hi Folks,
I don't really like to do this without having put anything into the forum yet myself but I'm desperate to get on top of this (I'll have to make up for it after).
I've got a 1995 2.0 16v GLS and have th eengine light coming on. I've done the paperclip trick to get the fault code from the ECU light flashin and it only flashes when the engine is not runnin. Assumin this was OK I changed the camshaft sensor (and checked the timing belt tension was OK) as this was the code it was givin. I then tried to clear the fault codes by disconnecting th ebattery for 20mins but the annoyin light stays (well most of the time!!)!! I've since heard that without the engine running it migth give the camshaft sensor code as a false code. Does anyone know if this is the case or what else I can try (unfortunately I don't know anyone with a TECH tester)?
Any help on this would hugely appreciated.
Cheers,
Dymo

Re: Fault code confusion
If you fix the fault the light will go out, taking the battery off only removes the fault code off the ecu memory, if the fault is there it will stay on.
Re: Fault code confusion
on the X20XEV engine (i'm making an assumption that is the engine) the fault code will clear when the fault is corrected UNLESS the fault is emissions based, then it'll need to be cleared. (had that with my vectra X20XEV when the MAF failed).
Also, with the engine off you will get a crankshaftsensor "fault" because the ECU is expecting a signal which it isn't getting.

Re: Fault code confusion
Thanks for the input guys... the strange thing I've got tho is that 2 of the fault codes that remain are from running the engine with 2 air sensors disconnected when messin about with it - as these were fine when I took them off I wouldn't have thought they'd be faulting now, no tboth of them anyway! (I have definitely reconnected them!). This is why I'm gettin frustrated (to put it mildly!!!).
And yep it sure is a X20XEV.
Any other thoughts, as you guys clearly know your onions.

Re: Fault code confusion
Thanks Gaz. I had a go, struggled to get it loose and gave up but the codes seemed to sort themselves out at a similar time so maybe it did the trick.
As for my cam sensor fault; I was going to take it to a great car elec guy I know and he asked whether I'd replaced the sensor for a £12 one off ebay, which I had, and so he told me to throw it away and get a decent one. So I did and it all works fine now. And the ECU light no longer shows itself!! So there's a lesson - just cos it's brand new it don't mean it works!!! It' s ajoy to have it done and have a car that drives well again.

Re: Fault code confusion
This is the second story I've heard this week of dodgy new sensors causing issues. Just goes to show that quality sensors are the way forward, or at least where the XE20XEV is concerned!!
