Re: airbag wiringremoval
Official procedure, disconnect battery, wait 5 minutes, disconnect airbag ecu under the back of the centre console behind handbrake, then the system is safe to work on.

the heater went cold last Thursday........
they check the level when it's serviced don't they?"

nice one, tomorrows job sorted
Re: airbag wiringremoval
The airbag warning light was on. on one of my cavs. I was planning a momo snap off wheel any way. So I just took THe wheel off, took the ~ECU out from behind the handbrake handle and took the bulb out of the dash.
I;ve never disconnected a battery when taken off an airbag.
Done it to 3 cars now and its never gone off.

I never used to disconnect the battery, but the official method is to do so then wait for a bit.

Re: airbag wiringremoval
I have removed tons of vauxhall airbag steering wheels and not once have i took the battery off.
Just make sure the ignition is off before you unplug the airbag, and don't turn the ignition back on until the airbag is plugged back in or else it will set the airbag light off on the dials.
If you are removing the airbag completely and putting a non airbag wheel on then just leave the plug there it will do no harm.

Re: airbag wiringremoval
If the light goes out then comes back on there may well be a fault still present. You can try disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes, allowing capacitors to discharge, if there is no fault it should reset the light.steven240374 wrote:Hi is there a procedure to reset the light on the dash as the person who had the car before me had the steering wheel off and the light goes out then comes back on sorry to hijack your thread but any help would be appreciated thanks

Re: airbag wiringremoval
I thought the air bag light was a Tech 1 reset only..
Not just a battery disconnection job..
True this will work for the normal EML, but not the air-bag.
However, I trust in Paul's knowledge... so I am open to being corrected.
However if you are leaving the bag out, then just remove the bulb from the dash - job done...
However will this not affect the MOT ?
Especially as the Airbag is a safety device....
