Re: Dash warning lights
What spec/model is your car? GLS? CD? You should have the EML as well, they're the basics.

Re: Dash warning lights
Sorry it's a GLS model
Re: Dash warning lights
GLS suggests a facelift model, so yes an engine light should also illuminate.
The exception would be pre-facelift carburettor cars..these may have a choke light (if manual choke conversion) but not an engine light.
Oh and a diesel would have the glow plug light too when it is cold.

Re: Dash warning lights
Yeah it's a 95 model maybe a bulbs gone , but there seems more lights on the dash not lit up, maybe a few bulbs are out ? Are they difficult to replace?
Re: Dash warning lights
It is a bit of a pig to do, but it is doable.
Ideally you want to do it whilst the weather is warm.
Procedure is as follows: -
Turn the steering wheel 90 degrees to the left.
remove the cover cap on the front of the upper shroud.
this will expose a cross head screw - unscrew this screw.
turn the steering wheel 180 degrees, so that it is now 90 degrees to the right.
again remove cap and screw.
Unscrew the three screws underneath the lower cowling around the steering column.
Remove the cowling halves.
There is a plastic trim across the bottom of the instrument cluster.
You need to bend this, by pulling the centre bit towards you.
This will release plastic tangs at both ends from the surrounding trims.
(The warm weather makes the plastic more flexible and less brittle).
Withdraw this panel.
The upper instrument trim strip has a screw on each end.
Undo these screws and withdraw the trim.
There should now be three screws holding the cluster into the dash.
Undo the three screws.
You will now need to twist the cluster to one side or tip it forward a little to allow you to unclip the speedo cable.
Unplug the two electrical connectors.
Withdraw the cluster and replace any blown bulbs.
Refitting is the reversal of removal.
Noting that the lower cluster trim needs to be flexed to allow you to insert it's end tangs into the surrounding trims.
Allow it to un-flex.
I think that is about right from memory.

Re: Dash warning lights
i've got a 93 cdi, but that has no eml light, not sure any of the 8 valve engined cars had eml? our old 93 GLS didn't have it either
Re: Dash warning lights
Pretty sure they do as its electronic. It needs to idicate a fault to the driver so that repairs can be made asap

Re: Dash warning lights
Hmm - all petrol, fuel injection mk3 Cavaliers should have an engine management light.
My 1.8 (C18NZ) and later 2.0 (C20NE) have had an EML. Both engines are 8 valve.
The only exceptions would be C16NZ or a retrofitted Cav Mk2 18SE.
These are the only Vauxhall Cavalier injection systems that I know of without an EML.
All these systems for Cavalier and Calibra below have an engine light.
16SV, C16NZ2, E16NZ, X16SZ,
18NZ, 18SV, C18NZ, X18XE,
20NE, C20NE, C20LET, C20XE, X20XEV
X25XE.

Re: Dash warning lights
Chances are, the EML was illuminated and some dodgy person has removed it to try and pass an MOT..
Or
The bulb has popped.
I can't add anything to what Robsey has advised above.

Re: Dash warning lights
Even the old carb engines on the mk3 had an eml, it was useless, but indicated a fault on the electronic ignition system.

they check the level when it's serviced don't they?"

Re: Dash warning lights
My old 18SV didn't have it when I bought it, but when I put a bulb in the slot, every now and then it would come up when driving. I couldn't get a code for some reason, maybe it didn't have a diagnostic plug or something, can't remember..
