There are 4 different types of heater motor resistors that I know of and there may be more.

Do you have a photo of your old one?
May help identify which type you have.

The one I have on my diplomat it a 240C fuse, it may be different on yours though.

My standard LSi facelift has a similar rating... it is 239 'C

I can only see two resister pack part numbers.

90486793
and
90297361

one is for with air-con.
The other is non air-con.

So by the looks of it anywhere around 235 to 240 'C should work fine.

With the air con one at least I know there are two completely different parts which actually have the same part number.
(have a look at my diplomat's wip thread, on page 1 and page 3)

My LS has a different type to the one on the CD manual too.

Just had a look at my spare resistor pack, the thermal fuse says 229C. I thought that was way overkill but Robsey's post above says 239C so that may be about right.. That was from one of my old Cavaliers, both 1.8's no air con.

Here are the two non air con parts I know of:

The one on the right has a slightly smaller mounting and is fitted to my 1.6 LS.
One on the left is fitted to my 2.0 CD.

What is this used for and where is it located?

This is used to give your car heater 4 fan speeds.
The resistor pack is located on the blower motor casing at the back of the engine bay below the plastic scuttle panel.

The same panel that the wiper spindles pass through.

Yeah I will be changing this one soon! My fan only works on the fastest speed. Isn't this supposed to fix it?

The thermal fuse should fix it. :)
