My rear window appears to given up de misting, before I start investigating is it generally the rear window or is it sometimes an easy fix?

Start by checking obvious things (fuse, connections, switch etc). Unless you've hit it or scraped something very heavily down the glass, you're not likely to have broken the element.

Does yours have electric door mirrors? Turning on the rear screen demister should warm them, or at least put a light on on the mirror adjuster. That'd give you an idea that the circuit is working at least.

If it is a heater element issue, it will be the connections to the element... not the element itself.

Possibly snapped off connection.

Otherwise usually fuse or relay issue.

The relay is buried behind the fuse box, on the relay frame.

Is your car a hatch or saloon? If a hatch it could be the cables broken where it bends & goes into the hatch itself.
