Dual Info Display (Clock and Temperature Display)
If you do not have one of these, but would like to fit one, then you will find no information in the Haynes Manual.
As far as that publication is concerned - such a thing does not exist.
I knew I had seen a pin out for this somewhere, so I had a trawl through my archive print-outs.
Lo and behold, I found an old post from Andy Kirwan.
The pin-out is his... the remainder is my ramblings
I am just updating it to allow people to wire one in if so desired.
So the pin out is as follows: -
Pin 1 = +12 Volts - Red wire
Pin 2 = Temperature Sensor - Blue / White wire.
Pin 3 = Earth - Brown wire
Pin 4 = Illumination (dimmer controlled) - Grey / Black wire.
(Or wire to a Grey / Green wire if you want constant full brightness).
Pin 5 = Ignition Live - Black wire
Pin 7 = Temperature Sensor - Blue wire
Pin 12 = Speed Signal wire - Blue / Red wire.
(Not necessarily required).
Wiring in your own Display.
Many cars come with the 12 pin side release connector tucked up between the heater control panel and the glove box.
For you this is simply plug and Play.
If you only have the Analogue Clock -
You will need to get a 12 pin black side tab / squeeze release connector from an early Corsa or Astra display.
Not the later Quadlock connector.
It may be a good time to visit your local scrapper.
Get yourself a 12 pin connector plus a good length of loom to join onto.
A Temperature sensor, with connector and again a good length of loom.
---------------------------------------------------------
You will probably only have three wires of the seven that you need going to the analogue clock..
You should have the Red, Brown and the Grey with either Black or Green tracer stripe.
So that is pins 1, 3 and 4 sorted already.
Pins 2 and 7 are for the exterior temperature sensor.
If you do not have wires for this, then it is simply a matter of running two wires to a sensor connector of the correct type.
The route for this wire should be from the bulk head close to the diagnostic socket etc, around the back of the left suspension tower, along the inner wing and drop down through a gap behind the headlamp.
The wire should come out between the arch-liner and the bumper.
The sensor should locate nicely in a hole on the bottom lip on the left side of the bumper.
So that leaves us with ignition live and speed signal to find.
The nearest ignition live is the feed to the glove box light, or the feed to the cigarette lighter.
Either way it should be a black wire.
The final wire is the speed impulse wire.
Dependent upon the model year of the car, it can depend what you have.
Possible sites for a wire to tap into are -
Early F Reg vehicles - There is no suitable take off point.
All others should possibly have a Blue wire with Red tracer stripe leading from the radio (pin 5 of the ISO plug),
or Instrument Cluster (pin 3), or in the right side kick panel below the engine ECU (X9 pin 2).
So that is it...

I shall update with further info and images when I can photograph my own jalopy in the next few weeks.

Great stuff, pics always appreciated!
Re: Dual Info Display (Clock and Temperature Display)
A quick question, I recently acquired one of these, the plug with 4" of cable, the sensor & sensor loom from an L reg diesel car. When I tried to replace the analog clock in my L reg 1.8 petrol car I found the yellow plug for trip computer & nothing else. So my question is if I colour match the cables & splice them together will it work ? or do I fit the trip computer instead in which case I'll need the button to control it & get it recalibrated as well,
Re: Dual Info Display (Clock and Temperature Display)
The choice is yours with regard to which display you fit.
The fuel computer is a lot more involved to fit, as most cars do not have the section of loom from the passenger side floor connector (X6) along the passenger side sill, and across to the centre console panel.
It is only 5 wires plus the switch if you wish to make up your own link cable.
The display graphics do get scratched very easily, and like you infer, almost none of the fuel computers will be programmed for the correct settings. Wrong program number.
The dual info display is a whole lot simpler as it is only about 6 or 7 wires.
Red - battery live for the clock
Black - ignition live for the temperature gauge
Grey / black or grey / green - for illumination
Blue - for temperature sensor
Blue / white for temperature sensor
Brown - for ground.
There s a blue / red - for speed pulse signal, but the display will work fine without it.
(It allows for the effect of wind chill on the temperature sensor.)

Re: Dual Info Display (Clock and Temperature Display)
I think I didn't phrase my question correctly what I'm trying find out is, do the colour coded cables do the same job for both devices ? Sorry for clogging up the thread.
Re: Dual Info Display (Clock and Temperature Display)
It is a perfectly good question.
Yes - just match the colours of the wires.
They are the same colours for both connectors.

Re: Dual Info Display (Clock and Temperature Display)
Right I've wired mine up & my question is should the temperature be showing up all the time ? I know the clock part needs a permanent supply, If so what does the black ignition live do ?
Re: Dual Info Display (Clock and Temperature Display)
From memory I think only the clock stays on.
But it is a long while since I last saw one in action.

That's what I was thinking perhaps someone who has one fitted from the factory may be able to tell me.Robsey wrote:From memory I think only the clock stays on.

On my CD manual the clock stays on constantly even when the ignition is off but the temperature is only displayed when the ignition is turned on. It does stay on constantly while the ignition is on though.iangsi wrote:That's what I was thinking perhaps someone who has one fitted from the factory may be able to tell me.

Agreed - I was sure that this was how it should be.

Odd. A variance between mainland and UK cars?

I've just double checked and you are absolutely right; the temperature and clock are both shown all the time.VectraGoVroom wrote:Odd. A variance between mainland and UK cars?
Sorry for doubting you.
Photographic evidence:
(CD manual)
I got confused with the trip computer in the CDX:
(Ignition off)
(Ignition on)
I really do need a new screen.

Oooooooh!!
So it is - I want to share in James' excuse.
I have had a fuel computer for too long.

I also hardly ever drive the CD manual so that's my excuse.Robsey wrote:Oooooooh!!

Re: Dual Info Display (Clock and Temperature Display)
Thanks for clearing that up for me gentlemen, I can complete the installation of this now
