Doors unlock whilst driving

Post by Yorkshire Engineer »

Some folks prefer to lock the doors whilst inside as a security feature. Occasionally system may unlock doors.
Cause: There is a safety module located in the side panel at driver's knee height that unlocks all the doors in the event of a collision. This only works whilst the ignition is on and so cannot be used (as on some competitors) as a way of gaining entry to the car when it is parked.

This is rather too close to the door mounted speaker and certain combination of music can set up a resonance that fools the sensor.

Potholes can have the same effect.

Hitting the side wall with the knee can also trigger it if it has gone sensitive.

Unless the problem becomes a nuisance, live with it as it could save your life.
Turning the Bass down slightly on the audio system may make a significant difference.

Test by hitting the car hard with an open hand below the driver's wing mirror.
The module is relatively easy to replace.
