Retrofit cruise control in non-ABS car?

Is this possible? My brother has an Omega-B sitting around as parts and offered me the cruise control bits. Will the controller work without a speed signal, and is there an easy way to get a signal to it if not?

Things to check -

Do you have a blue / red wire on the back of your speedometer cluster, or on pin 5 of the radio.

I would be surprised that any facelift Vectra would not have the speed pulse wire.

If you do not have the blue / red wire, then the work-around is to fit a Cv joint with an abs toothed ring fitted.
You will also need an abs pick-up sensor.

Then you need the orange speed / pulse relay from a Corsa-C.

I will need to look up my old documents, but there are four wires to the relay.

1 - out to abs sensor
2 - return from abs sensor
3 - ignition live +12 voltage
4 - ground / earth / chassis.

Not quite sure how this connects to your instruments / head unit, but it is documented somewhere in the forum archives...
I shall have a look.
It will probably be listed under fitting later electronic speedometer clusters.

All you do is link the blue-red wire from the speedometer / radio to the cruise control module.

Also - is it a V6 Omega or a 4 pot unit.?

If it is a V6, it will only engage at much higher road speeds - I have read above 50 mph - so for you above 80 kph.

Cheers. It's a V6, not that I need to use CC below 80 anyway. I'll take a look tomorrow.

Might anyone have the Total Vauxhall retrofit guide downloaded? The site is dead.

Have you tried our how 2 section.

Squig did a version of this for his V6 Cavalier

Ah, didn't see that one. Looks a little daunting but doable, I'll give it a look. Cheers.

The tricky bit is locating the cruise control module.
As you are using the Omega V6 module, you have the use of a longer control cable.
This makes it much easier to find a good mounting point.

Thanks. Trailer wire seems like a good idea, I'll use that.

You should be able to get 7 core trailer wire.
The wires are thicker than you need for the stalk switches, diagnostic wire and dash tell tale wire - but it is convenient to have them in a pre-made loom for the module end.

The module normally requires about 8 wires dependent upon whether you wish to add a dash warning light (as they do in Australia) and / or the diagnostic wire.
If you are over keen, you would want 10 wires to populate every pin on the connector for every function.

All facelift Cavalier/Vectra A fitted with trip computer or DID (dual info display - clock and outside temperature) got the speed signal no matter of engine or if fitted with ABS or not.
Only early facelift models with 2.0i (C20NE) and quartz clock may(!) not have speed signal because engine management Motronic M1.5 doesn't need it for function. In this case wiring is present but sensor in instrument cluster is missing.

The cruise control module in Vectra and Omega is always the same, only the control cable is different in length. V6 engines have shorter ones than 4 bangers. You should always reprogram the control module via Tech 2 according to your engine. If C20NE is fitted reprogram it to X20XEV. Then it will engage also at lower speeds.

I consider myself re-educated.

Many thanks for the information.
Duly noted.
