Linking external device to Blaupunkt CD player

Post by dorsetdave »

On my Cavaliers that have the cassette option I use a "fake" cassette connector with a 3.5mm mouse tail socket to listen to my iPod etc. The 94 Cavalier has the factory spec. Blaupunkt CD player and this does not have a 3.5mm jack socket. Has anyone ever spliced into the ISO connections to connect a similar socket? I am taking the car on a Continental trip and listen to audio stories and music on my iPod. I can swop a cassette player or modern head into the car (even on a temporary basis) but would like to keep the original look. The iPod 160gb does not have a Bluetooth link but has a connection to a USB as well as the jack.
Ant thoughts gratefully received as always.

An alternative altogether could be the range of hands-free kits that were available about 10 years ago...and still are available.

Parrot Mki9200, which has an aux-in function and SD card facility.
Typically £200 new from Halfords and the like.
Any ugly out of place display can be mounted / hidden in the glovebox.

Dension Ice Link / Gateway.
Similar in functionality to the Parrot unit.

Nokia CK100. This is the unit that I had fitted in my car. All tucked up behind the glovebox, with the control button hidden in the ashtray.
I removed it because the "feedback voice" was quite annoying.
This is bluetooth only, no wired aux-in.

There is a higher version of Nokia kit that has similar functionality to the Parrot for a similar price.

All can be bought more cheaply on any of the usual online auction sites.
All of my car kits have been used, but worked perfectly.

Thanks Rob. I have ordered one and was hoping to let you know how I got on. Alas it hasn't arrived yet. Apologies for the delay. I will report back. I'm very grateful for your help as ever.

Rob, the device arrived today and although it works well on a memory stick the iPod classic 160 does not seem to be compatible with it.

I suppose I could try to find another device to download iTunes onto but as I use 120+ Gb my phone and tablet can't cope.

On a temporary basis I will just have to transfer a modern radio with a USB port on it to the car.

Thanks for your assistance as ever.

Hmm - what a bugger.
I don't know which device you have, but I wonder if you can get a firmware update to improve compatibility.

Suppose it was worth a try

Regards,
Rob.

Rob I have just invested in a cable that has a 3.5mm jack on one end and a USB on the other. At £1.99 including postage it's worth a try. It's supposed to be supplied from the UK so it should not be too long before I can post the update.

Not quite sure how that would work, but as you say - it is worth a punt at less than £2 all in.

The idea was to plug the 3.5mm jack into the earphones socket of the iPod and the USB into the FM transmitter unit. Alas it does not work although plugging the jack into other appliances does. Looks like some incompatibility from the iPod. I seem to recall that, some time ago, I bought an adaptor for one of my Citroen Picassos that fooled the unit into thinking that it was connected to the CD stacker. that did work ok.
Back to the drawing board.

I have a similar cd changer emulator for my camper van.

That works a treat on the old Alpha, Beta and Gamma radios of the 80's and 90's.

It seems to be an iPod issue that you are having...
very strange :scratch
