Foglights not working

Post by Skara »

Hi everyone, I have retrofited foglights on my car but I had wiring and plugs behind radiator grille and wiring for the foglight switch, also fitted the small relay and the fuse. Having done all that they don't seem to work but the switch lights up with green light when I press it. The bulbs are new I replaced them today. Here's the picture of my fusebox.

That bridging piece in the top right relay location is in the wrong slots.

It should be the top and bottom slots.
Not the middle one.

That is how mine is wired.

I see that fuse 13 is populated with a 20 amp fuse.
So that is good.
Have you tried another fuse to be sure.

Only thought I have is -
Are the plugs by the radiator clean and dry.
Free from corrosion on the pins.
They are in an exposed position.
Are the earth wires good?

Black for front fogs +12 volts.
Brown for front fogs ground wire.

Yes, you should get 12 volts from the black wires, with the red probe on the test meter,
and the black "com" probe of the test meter on the Brown wires.

Here is the How 2.
It shows where all wires should go.

Ok so I'm getting 12v readings but on moments it's not constant so I should assume the contacts have corroded over the years being behind the grille. I'll try and clean them and see if that solves it, I'll post an update. thanks for the help Robsey.

If you have problems getting them clean,
You should be able to get similar plugs from other cars in the scrap yard / car breakers / recyclers.

They are very common two pin plugs :)
Especially on all other Vauxhall / Opels.

As for the help - it is my pleasure.
