Connector indetification

Post by Skara »

Anyone can tell me what these connectors are for, one is under the cowl panel where connectors for wipers and blower motor are and the other one is near ignition coil ?

Regarding the first photo, do you have a light fitting in the bonnet? The wires for that run down the bottom of the bonnet and somewhere into the bulkhead area, if I remember right, that could be it.

No idea about the second one.

I thought about the light under the bonnet but shouldn't there be two connectors not just one ?

The bonnet light connector should be near the corner, close to the diagnostic socket and octane coding plug.

Wires should be Green for 12v supply,
then green / brown to a switch,
Which then grounds to the body.

The first image shows the same colours as for the blower motor.
Yellow, Green and Brown.

As for the second image, it looks like a single red wire, which is permanent live.

As for it's function... I have no idea.
I definately do not have that on my car (ex-C18NZ).

Not sure if on my car it should be different having in mind it's not a Cavalier but Vectra A, anyhow this is grey/green wire and it's only one wire so it can't be heated jets because I looked it up part number GM 90566593 there are also two wires black/brown and if it isn't bonnet lamp I really wonder what it is for. :scratch

For 95% of the car, a Vectra-A is just a rebadged Cavalier mk3.

Grey / Green sounds familiar.
And there aren't many Black / Browns.

I will see what I can find out.

Knowing Vauxhall/Opel it would be for something daft like an auxiliary radio connection or something silly like that.

My old C18NZ (if that's what yours is) didn't have the extra wire coming out of the ignition amplifier as I've pretty much been all over the engine compartment for years on that.

Okay -a single grey/green is a feed to an unswitched bonnet / engine bay light.
The bonnet light would have a brown ground wire screwed to the metal of the bonnet.
(At least it did on my mk2 Cavalier / Ascona-C).

The green and green/brown wires that I mentioned would be for the alarm (atws) bonnet switch.

As for the black/brown...
Are you sure that is not black / violet between the coil and the ignition amplifier.?

And that still looks like a red wire coming from the terminal of the coil with the black / violet wire.

I have checked the wiring diagrams, and black / violet confirms a small block C16NZ, not NZ family 2.

But - there is no mention of a red wire from the coil or ignition amplifier.
So the answer remains - I don't know.

The single grey-green is for the bonnet light. Connection to ground is made via a short brown cable which is screwed to the bonnet near the light.

It's definetly one color since I cleaned it up a bit but now to be honest I'm not sure is it red or pink :scratch . Although I somehow doubt it they would use pink for wire colors but I might be wrong.

I think it's a connector for measuring purposes like ignition timing.

Old red wire insulation tends to turn pink, it's perfectly normal. So yes, it would be red.
