Headlight manual adjuster to electric

Post by cavalier1990 »

Hi

Does anyone know if the manual adjuster can be taken out h/light and the electric one popped in it's place? Seems to be most headlights for sale are manual adjust ones. I did think all post 92/93 were electric except the 'L' but could be wrong.

Cheers

It is doable as I have done it myself but be careful with popping the manual adjuster knob from its place because it is easy to break. For the info I have been doing this on facelift headlights but I recon they are the same except the glass.

Thanks, looking at headlight part numbers and makes (Hella/Lucas/Carelli) it's hard to tell what's what. I am looking at ones with manual adjuster but I did find one or two with the hole for the electronic adjuster. Suppose you would need to strip it down i.e. glass off to get the adjuster to pop off, and push electroinc one back on.

Yes that would be the hard and correct way to do so, alas I have done it without stripping just removed manual winder and put the electric one inside.

Electric height adjustment was introduced as standard in late 1991 (before the face-lift) on every model, even the L and base models.

This continued until the end of production, so every face-lift cavalier would have left the factory with electric headlamp levelling.

The reason they carried on producing the manual ones with the face-lift glass is simply cost:
My father had a minor accident in around 2005 and smashed a headlight. A new electric one cost around £200, a manual one was more like £60.

Both headlight casings on the diplomat, the little lug below the indicators are broken, that's usually the case with 2nd hand ones, so really any side as I am trying to make up a good set for that, I also just got a full spare light N/S for the LS, on that one the lug is still there, but the bolt hole is cracked slightly, but I can fix that.

Basically if anyones got a good spare any side I'd be interested.

Thanks James for that I kind of thought the pre-facelifts were almost all manual adjusters, except for high end models, but then most facelifts were electric adjusters. I wonder if the casings are the same pre and post, just on looking at them they look much the same.

Shortlist of the less expensive ones if you have no luck here, not sure about the first
