I would fit a fuse of the same value, as that in the back of your head-unit.

Normally 15 amps for Vauxhall set-ups.

I presume most aftermarket systems will advise a fuse rating in the owner's manual technical section .

Yep the one in the headunit is 15A, cheers mate thats some good advice right there :thumb

I know it's an old thread, but this will come in handy when I try to work out why I can't get my electric aerial to work with the new Pioneer head!

So far i have had to turn the red and yellow wires around so it saves the radio station and my set up ect.

This is normal practice on ALL Vauxhalls, (To swap the red and yellow wires for after market headunits).
Is this the red and yellow wires on the new unit or on the existing wiring loom from the cav?
The reason I ask is
a, according to the list above the yellow is for speakers
b, I have no new wiring with my new unit. they original plugs just go straight into the rear of it
c, if I swapped the red and black around on the original cavalier wiring would that give me permanent live so I can store radio channels etc?

Yellow in the comment is one of the live wires on the "after market" radio loom.

As long as your radio comes with the standard ISO connector, you should be fine.

If you look at page one of this thread, it tells you what the car loom colours are and their functions.

From memory car loom yellow is right front speaker positive...

Regarding red and black wires.

Vauxhall red = battery 12 volts.
Vauxhall black = ignition live 12 volts
Vauxhall brown = ground.


Be careful - after-market colours are different.

A/m red = battery live or ignition live.
sometimes ignition live could be blue.
A/m black = ground ***
A/m yellow = battery live or ignition live.

I am pointing this out because of the black wire.

different radio makes use different colour codes for battery live or ignition live.

So plug your radio in as it is...
if you don't lose your radio presets when you turn the ignition is off, then all is good.

If you do lose presets, then swap the red and black in the vauxhall loom.
but ** make a note what you have done on a sticker on the radio.
so that you can swap the wires back if you sell the car but keep the radio.
