boot button
as some of you know i've just got my first mk3 cav sri xe 150 bhp 1 owner from new 72k (saloon) i always had mk2 130's (saloons) they had a boot release button,in the mk3 at the side of the leckie windows there is a button is this for the boot (if it is mine's not working any ideas )
Re: boot button
no it doesnt have one, but putting one in is easy, just put a central locking motor onto the bar that pulls when you open the boot, earth out one side and run a switched live to the motor via a switch and bingo your done.
Re: boot button
so whats the small button for then ????????????????????
Re: boot button
it overides the safety cutout for when its icy (the bit that stops you shutting it on your hand/head etc)

I need a diagram Gaz.
Re: boot button
Basically you need a switched live (as you don't want the button to work without the keys in) off the fusebox
Run that wire to one side to a momentary switch (if you use an on/off switch you wont be able to shut the boot as it will always be open while the switch is on)
The other side of the switch run a wire to the boot.
In the boot you need a central locking motor (2 wire) which you attach to the bar that opens the boot (its really obvious once you open it up) maplins do a kit with extra bars and blocks to connect the bars for £8 if you dont want to play with scrapyard motors
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=12304
It may take a couple of attempts to mount the motor so it pulls the bar vertically operating the factor rod
You need to link the live to one side of the motor and earth the other out (making sure the motor pulls rather than pushes)
use female bullet connectors if your using the maplins kit as it makes it easy to swap if its going the wrong way
To earth it out- fit a ring connector to a wire with a female bullet connector on the other end. Then link the ring connector to the earth point in the boot (couple of brown wires going to a pole for the ring connector to attach to)
Press the switch and it will open the boot just on the latch you will probably have to open it the rest of the way by hand if your boot struts are a bit worn.

Re: boot button
good, should be do-able
Re: boot button
If you actually look at other new cars all the boot pop buttons on them work constantly (permenant live). This is much better too as if your gonna have to fanny about putting your keys in the ignition to press the button then you may aswell put your keys in the boot and forget the boot button!
Or even better would be to have the button on a live that only works when the drivers door is open, so that you open the door and press the button, easy.
Lets face it if a thief wants to get in your boot, there gonna get in anyway.

All food for thought so they say. Going to look into a few things over the next coming days (read: probably months)
