Upgrade bulbs
Just wondering.
i spotted some H4 upgrade bulbs online, what would 160/90 watt improve over my standard crappy 60/55 watt bulbs? My bulbs are in good nick, alternator is good and the headlamps have been replaced last year. But i am getting such crap light output, i sometimes have to hold the flasher stalk on dark roads just to get reasonable'ish light. I dont have the money for a HID upgrade, but i heard that higher wattage H4 bulbs will help. Anyone else know about these? Many thanks.
Andrei.

Aye, 80/100 should do fine. might be worth uprating the wiring to the headlights too. Something I plan to do to mine.

Re: Upgrade bulbs
May sound a little daft, but are your head lights aligned properly?
Mine were pointing up too much and blinding every one, number 3 on the electric adjuster and i can only see a foot in front of the bonnet, so now they reside at a nice number 2.

Re: Upgrade bulbs
yes they are aligned well. I tried and tested adjusting myself but it is just the bulbs, not being bright enough.
I did look at some 90/160 rally bulbs but i figured they would overload the system, so i'll try 80/100 for now. I spoke to my dads friend about it before, he said it should be ok. He has a Cav too with a HID setup, and they are bright. i'm not after HID style, just more bright than mine are now. I will see how it turns out anyways.

Re: Upgrade bulbs
Not with 80/100 watt you wont. 100 watts divided by 12 volts = 8.3333 ampsGaz wrote:You will melt the wiring!
Ive used 80/100 watt bulbs in my cars for years without any mods to the wiring with out any problems.

Re: Upgrade bulbs
I've noticed my 80/100's have dramatically reduced in brightness (ie, my side lights are actually brighter) suggestions anyone?

Re: Upgrade bulbs
I'm thinking bad earth. how are they on full beam? if they can stay on full beam for a good length of time then i doubt the wiring has melted. Check the reflectors/ are the lenses misted up?/bulbs in good nick?/ just general bits really.

Re: Upgrade bulbs
definately check ur earthing dude, i think that sounds like the problem more than anything.
hey geezer who adjusted with the internal adjuster in the cab, id suggest you get the allignment checked dude. your lights should sit at naught on the scale and be in the right spot. otherwise when u have a heavy load you wont be able to adjust down and everyone will be flashing you. (hope im not just being a smart arse here, )
