Fog lights

Post by HAIRIBO »

What is needed to fit fog lights to a base model cavalier. Are the wires in the whole where you fit the switch? Or dose everything need to be fitted.

I have the LS, which is quite basic.

To fit foglights, you would need the following.

1 - Fog light switch
2 - Fog-lights (of course)
3 - Don't forget the fuse...position 13 I think
4 - Some say fit a relay, but if you have the grey/yellow wire across the top right relay location in the fuse box, then this will work fine.

What you will need to fit, is a wire from the huge connector in the passenger footwell. This will run to the front bumper, from where it will split to feed each fog-light.

Then from each fog light you will need a grounding wire, that can go to the nearest metal screw location.

Bear with me for a few minutes, as I did do a basic drawing of the wire location that feeds the fog lights.

I've found its a hit and miss thing. I have the wiring for the foglights in my L reg LS :) Remove the grill and look for 2 loose 2 pin plugs first.

Well I have spare relays fuses and switches. And even a set of fog lights. I was thinking of sticking some LED Fog lights some where hidden in the BTCC stlye front splitter. so by day you cant see anything. until it gets foggy and I turn them on. I'll have a look around the front gril and foot well nearer the time. I'm glad the fog light bswitch can just fit straight in and dosent need wires feeding to it.

As Gary says (EnvoyCDX), remove the plastic grill from in-front of the radiator ( just 3 x Philips No 2 self tappers on the top, and then lift out).

If you have the fog-light loom already fitted, you should see a plug tied up at each side of where the grill was located.

Vauxhall has always been a bit hit and miss with wiring looms.

In Vauxhall's TIS database, it lists 4 set-ups / configurations

1) No wiring whatsoever
2) Wiring from the fusebox, to the large connector in the passenger side kick panel. But nothing from there to the bumper.
3) The wiring is complete, but tied up out of the way, either side of the radiator grill.
4) Some variation of above, but with Swedish Spec daytime running lights.

The most common configurations are 2 and 3 - dependent upon trim level and year of manufacture.

Do you mean the grey/yellow link wire?

or do you mean the wires for the fuse position, as it should be fuse 13.

Only way it should be different, is if someone has pinched the fuse point for another device, like I did for my permanent live to my sunroof...I used my fuse for electric rear windows, as my rears are winders (handraulic)

Here's what I was on about (Image from Vauxhallownersnetwork)

On the CDX the yellow grey wire is in that postion. in the Cesaro there is a metal clip that goes from the top notch to the one just below. (ie one higher than that on the Photo you have)

It will tell you which position, on the pull down flap on your fuse box. :)

So do I just need to put a wire where the photo shows the front fog relay? as thats how it is on my CDX but not on the Cesaro. The fuse postion is correct. just the there is no wire just a clip that goes from the top notch to the one just below where the relay is.

If the clip is metallic, then this may act in place of the wire link.

However, if it is not, then yes indeed, try the linnk wire as shown.

Thing to do before you try anything is,
put in the switch,
put in the fuse (13)
if the front loom is there, then just connect up your fog-lamps (out of the bumper) and see if it works.

If loom is not there, then make up loom loosely and connect to lamps.

If it works, then leave relay position alone
If it doesn't, then try link wire as in the photo.

I've never had a Cesaro, and so I cannot be exactly certain about any possible differences in the fuse box.
There are no visble differences in the wiring diagrams in TIS and Haynes.

regards,
Rob
