what is the silver control box under the centre console for and why does it have to face forward? i cant find my manual

airbag ecu, anything with yellow covered wiring is airbag related

It is an accelerometer - but in reverse..

It senses the speed of deceleration..
Beyond a certain rate of slowing, the air-bags and seat belt tensioners are triggered.

As Gaz states... All the air bag cables are coated in a lovely golden yellow fluffy shrowd..
Vauxhall convention, is for the main wires inside to have orange insulation, with coloured identification stripes.
