Is it painted? if it's painted, use a toothbrush with some cleaner.

is it discoloured laquer? You might try taking it back with wet and dry, then polishing it back up with g4?

Sounds like the sealant/laquer they spray on at the factory - no idea how to remove it other than elbow grease.

You can buy steam cleaners from the factory warehouse, for about £12!

...they are rubbish!

I can think of a good thing to use, they're a kind of scraper. Like some sort of soft plastic or something (maybe nylon??). They are green and look like a scaled down ruler. I don't know what they're called so I couldn't get one recently, the guy in the shop made me feel a right spoon trying to describe it to him! I've used them before for scraping gasket remains from mating head / block faces.

If anyone can give a proper name for it, try one, and Ill order one too lol

I would recommend a steam cleaner in short, sharp blasts, will clean up your engine bay a treat, certainly would give the wire brush a miss! :thumb

autosmart G101 in a spray jar,
spray the dirt and use a soft brush to remove the dirt,
then a light hose will bring it up like new!
then use autosmart finish for all the black plastics
