Eastern Region meet Sunday 25th August - Your Pics Here!
A fantastic day, a really good turnout and the weather was well and truly on our side. Unfortunately, we lost Martay before the day began due to a suspected head gasket failure (hope you get it sorted pal) but otherwise much fun was had by all.
The Transport Museum was crazy, with hundreds of cars tightly packed into sweltering greenhouses (the venue is a former garden centre). Everything from early Bentleys to Austin Allegros to Mazda RX8s via heavy military machinery. Oh and the resident 8v Mk3 Cav! The owner of the museum was a top guy who took time to chat to us all, and revealed that he spent 22 years on the Vauxhall production line assembling police force Cavaliers... much to the amusement of NickSRi who was able to glean some valuable information about the construction of his awesome ex-plod SRi. Furthermore, the guy produced a pile of Mk3 Cavalier promotional brochures that he gave out to us all as a susprise gift. Top notch!
The Black Horse provided the perfect place to unwind after our lengthy tour of the museum, with top grub and top company the order of the day.
So, without further ado, pop your pics in this thread! A fair few of mine are below, featuring a snapshot of some of the museum exhibits
Was a great day, cheers to everyone for turning out, look forward to the next one!
Attendees:
1. humbucker (Cavalier Turbo 4x4)
2. NickSRi (police spec SRi)
3. James McGrath + Mike McGrath (Cavalier CD)
4. Maracus + Tina (Cavalier Turbo 4x4)
5. Colorado + Mrs Colorado + Colorado Jnr (Cavalier CD)
6. Iangsi (Cav Motorsport)
7. Dan's mate, Jason + Jason's sister, Sharon (walking distance, no car!)
8. Rage + Mrs Rage + 2x Rage Jnr's (Cav GLS hatch)
Turbo #1 cleaned, polished and ready for action:
Off we go!
L-R: the back of Rage, NickSRi and Colorado's heads(!):
PC Colorado!
...and 1000 forum points for this pose!
A trip around the Stondon Motor Museum before a visit to The Black Horse in Ireland:
We'd lost Mr and Mrs Maracus at this point (as well as Jason and his sister, Sharon), but they were with us for the wander around the museum earlier in the day. The rest of us got our drink on (I was behind the camera):
For a moment, I thought PlanetC was about to join us...
Interesting all terrain action. Lots of wheel spinning, lots of cursing. In the end, they dumped their Beemer at the side of the road!
Without further ado, here are *some* of the museum exhibits. There were too many to catalogue. It's an incredibly diverse collection, although looking back, I appear to have focussed on the least extraordinary items on display!:
Raleigh Vektar bike! Wow! I'd forgotten about these badboys:
The museum's resident Mk3 Cavalier:
They didn't sell unusual gifts. No, it was simply an unusual gift shop... :/

Looks a good turnout..
Do like Nick's one, certainly defines the versatility of the Cavaliers. They can do just about anything...
Finally we're getting a good number of meets and events going, used to be well quiet when I first joined. Now it's every other month

Thoroughly enjoyed it (and being a policeman) What struck me is that the club has such a diverse group of cars, and plenty of knowledge and assistance on all thing Cavalier. Thanks to Dan for organising this.

Awesome photos.
Curious, what was the air-to-air missile on display? Was it an Aim-9 Sidewinder? Looked a little big though, so could be a medium-range one instead.

Dunno, not sure you'll get away with fitting it to your Cav though... :/Cavalier342 wrote:Awesome photos. Curious, what was the air-to-air missile on display? Was it an Aim-9 Sidewinder? Looked a little big though, so could be a medium-range one instead.

Funny you should say that... I recently wrote about an IS200 for Japanese Performance magazine and the owner has based its looks on an Apache helicopter. He wants to fit dummy gatling guns into recesses in each wing!

Don't worry pal, we were more concerned for you than anything else. We are planning another regional trip, Sunday Oct 6th, I will post details shortly, but hopefully you can make that one.Martay wrote:Awesome photos guys, Im truly gutted i missed it I hope i didnt keep ya'all waiting for me too long? Sorry but that lexus looks nothing like a Boeing AH-64! Absolutely nothing. Don't know what that's all about. Hasn't even got the right colour for starters...

I'll be there, probably in the Diplomat as that will be my daily drive by then.

Great pictures and superb policeman shot! They really did squeeze everything tight into that place - not a cigarette paper width between most of them. Looks like a super day out!

Re: Eastern Region meet Sunday 25th August - Your Pics Here!
You're not wrong! There was an amazingly diverse collection of cars, rammed tight into a number of 'greenhouses', but the roof did look a bit suspect in places, dripping water on to the cars beneath. The pics above show just a small shapshot of what was on offer, definitely worth a visit if you're ever in that neck of the woods - but take water... they really did used to be greenhouses as it was once a garden centre! It gets pretty toasty in there!lowrider dave wrote:Great pictures and superb policeman shot! One thing is for sure... they're buggered if they ever want to get one of the cars out!

Good man! It will probably be the last outing for Turbo #1 before some serious work over the winter. The tax runs out on the 31st Oct which is when it will be SORNd again 'til Spring...James McGrath wrote:I'll be there, probably in the Diplomat as that will be my daily drive by then.humbucker wrote: We are planning another regional trip, Sunday Oct 6th, I will post details shortly.

Yeah, I'm going to be doing the same thing on the LS from now on; garaging her up for winter and putting her on SORN for 6 months a year.

Providing your MOT doesn't fall in that window it's not a bad way of doing it, you can preserve the car and it gives you an unrushed opportunity to work on it before the spring, almost a self-imposed deadline.James McGrath wrote:humbucker wrote:

Re: Eastern Region meet Sunday 25th August - Your Pics Here!
Just looking through these pics again and what Paul (Colorado) says rings true - there is such a brilliantly diverse collection of Cavaliers in this club, each different to the next, and Sunday's outing seemed to prove that without a shadow of a doubt - from Marcus' heavily modified Turbo through Nick's plodmobile, Rage's GLS hatch and the stock CDs... I love this forum!
James' pic kinda sums it up:

Great day out for us as well found it to be a good cross section of classics and modern classics lol
Most of the pics I took are already shown here albeit from someone else's camera, but here's a couple more worth adding..
Did anyone notice how you steer these things? Not with a wheel, but a bloody great handle from one side! I'm still amused by that!
The funny red cheese wedge shaped car.. Funky looking dash...
Random; Trust me to spot a collection of old mowers haha!!
And I notice Dan took the same picture I did only his came out better...
Can't wait for the next meet

Don't eat too many mushrooms... Else you won't have 'mush-room' for anything else!!! Hahahaha
