10th anniversary meet

Post by James McGrath »

Just realised that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the clubs conception.

I've been thinking for a long time about a possible 'national' meet up.

Two ideas spring to mind;
Option 1 - A trip to see the HMS Cavalier, the WW2 destroyer at Chatham Historical Dockyard.
or
Option 2 - a London to Brighton run which is pretty self explanatory.

Let me know what you think, I'd really like to get as many people and Cavaliers involved as possible.

I'd be up for either, I suggested a London to brighton run a while back people seemed keen but no one actually signed up.

Sadly it looks like the birth place of the forum will probably not be involved.

- That is Liverpool on 22nd September 2007
(Edit - correction it was actually Gaz in Manchester on that day)

All of the original admins and mods from ten years ago have now long gone.
Foxy Cav - Liverpool
Gaz - East Manchester
Squig - North Stockport
Envoy CDX - Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Lets hope we can get a few northen members to the VBOA gathering next month.
I am not making promises myself, because every time I threatened to attend either the weather (floods) or other factors (cessation of Billing as a venue) killed my previous plans for those two particular years.
And everyone I have met on previous club meets have now also left.
Oops!!

Either would be good - not been to Chatham, so that would be of more interest to me, plus the namesake...

Pity we cannot meet in a more central location so the most active members can all meet without some doing the lion's share of driving. Perhaps a meet at the Heritage Centre? Could Dan wangle some sort of special visit and turn it into an article?

There's no reason why we couldn't have more than one meet to celebrate the 10th.

Just checked - 230 miles from Manchester to Chatham... approx 4 1/2 hours each way.

Sounds like one of James' local shopping excursions - ha ha.

10 years, seems like an eternity, yet it flies by before we realize it. I think the occasion deserves something special. I'm not driving at the moment, but if I still had a cav, I would be up for it.

great for the southern members, not so good for people like myself, up in the North east, every meet has to be down south, we even have to travel 4hrs to the big shows, PVS etc., about time some show and meets were further up north

I'm sure that when I signed up here all those years ago, there were meets happening up North, not sure why there isn't anything happening up there now. It all seems to be down here from what I read.

... and I've just driven 3-4hr today to the north east, Teesside ... sadly without the turbo - some sick bag tried to stealing my motor!

I'd be up for the north east / Midlands meet up once the car fixed and given some tlc!

Words cannot begin to describe how utterly pathetic some scum are. Sorry to hear that. Justice isn't enough to serve them!

Regarding a northern meet -
I think there are simply too few members to make a decent gathering viable.

In the old days, there were several northern members.
But most of these have now left, including 3 x admins and a moderator.

I think there are more members in Scotland and North East, than the remainder of the North West and central areas of England.

I did open a Northern Meet topic, but I think only one or two members responded.
A location of Ferrybridge Services at the junction of the M62 and M1 / A1(M) had been suggested as a mid point, some time in July.
However this topic was abandoned due to lack of interest.

Ok, the 23rd doesn't seem like a good day for everyone.

How about the 16th September?
