VBOA Rally 2021 Sywell Aerodrome 2nd 4th July

Post by Mk3alan »

Thought I had seen this event on here but then couldn't find it - so please delete if doubled up!
Went a couple of years ago - good day out with fine display of cars in an excellent venue.
Planning on going this year (please!)

Hi Alan,

It is mentioned 'in passing' on a few other threads, but not by direct reference.

We are hoping to attend as it is a great "all round" event, however we will be in the visitor's area in the wife's tired old Vectra-C. The Cavalier will probably stay on SORN until 2022. :(

There is no VauxFest this year (2021) which is very disappointing. And 2022 will be virtually the first day of autumn. (Back end of September).

So VBOA is our only proper opportunity to meet up with fellow enthusiasts and members from various other forums.

And for us to bring our big daft numpty (great dane).
Only 13 months old here

She will be on hand to pull any cars out that get stuck. (if the weather makes the ground soft and boggy).

The family and I will be there as usual.

Lizzie and I will be camping Friday to Sunday and my Mum and Dad will be staying in a hotel nearby.

Probably taking two cars between us this year; the LS will be there and either the CD auto or CD hatch.

Our cars will be on show with the Cavalier and Chevette club and I'll be offering Tech1 services to anyone who needs it too.

Honestly can't wait, seems like forever since the last one.

I will be relegated to the public car park (which I thought was quite good last time) but will keep an eye out for you all!

I think Saturday would be better.

I find that if I go on the Sunday, by the time that I get there in the early afternoon, half of the vehicles have left or are getting ready to go home.
Meaning that I have missed out on too much.

So I am hoping to go on the Saturday.

BUT - you never know until I get a straight decision from the missus.
I guess it depends who else will be there on which days.

I am concerned that the weather could be poo this weekend.... heavy rain and thunder forecast.

And sadly I think that I will be unable to make the trip.
A real shame - but I suppose it means that I can look forward to resurrecting the Cavalier for 2022 season.

Although - weather permitting, the boss says we are still going... on Sunday

Thankfully, the weather held off long enough.

So here are a few snaps....
I didn't get too many Cavalier pictures, because I suspect that James will post up a few when he posts in a few days.

First a few Bedford vans.

Little and large -

And a funky fire tender...

I am a fan of the older battle cruisers like Monzas and Royales.
So I paid a trip to the Autobahnstormers area.

Some of the dressed up cars.

Some Cavaliers... but not belonging to anyone I know.

And Ebony having a good look round.

This was our trusty steed for the day...

A few other cars from today...

Regarding the weather staying good...
The same cannot be said about the drive home.
The M1 motorway was flooded quite badly between junctions 19 and 25.

Great day, thought it was going to be a washout! Good to see some familiar faces and get out 'like we used to' also picked up a few bargains as well.
One of my favourites of the day.

Dare I say it...
My actual favourite on the day was not one of the "in-crowd'...
It was actually a brief glimpse of a blue mk2 Ford Escort RS as it was leaving.
I could not tell you the engine size though - probably RS2000.

In a strange geriatric sort of way, I quite liked the fire tender, but we didn't really get a proper look at anything.
After the long drive down, I am usually a bit too knackered mentally to soak up what is going on around me.

Agreed though it was good to see the McGrath clan along with Mk3Alan and his side-kick Dave.

Shame that we did not see any of the other familiar faces.

Maybe next year we will have a bigger meet up around the "Chevette and Cavalier" stand.
