Anyone else going? Just booked our tickets for the Sunday. 2019 was a good show and autojumble, picked up a couple of replacement sun visors!

Are there any VBOA clubs left, seems to have lost meaning with vauxhall, or is it just a legacy name now.

Sadly not us this year -
We have other commitments earlier in the week, which means that the other half will be absolutely knackered. We have to limit her to one activity per week otherwise she gets totally wrecked.
I am sure there are some "official" VBOA clubs out there, but as you know, our club was never officially recognised as we never charged membership, and also didn't offer any exciting merchandise as a reward for your membership fee.
Bigger clubs such as VODC, Vectra-C.com, Cavalier and Chevette Club, (and many more) still charge membership and run official areas at the VBOA clubs meet.

It's not at all a legacy name. There is a thriving community of clubs that belong to the VBOA.
The VBOA itself however is on rocky ground at the moment.
There have been some poor decisions made in the last few years and even aligations of corruption which have not gone down well with some of the clubs.
The Cavalier and Chevette club, a founding member of the VBOA, have taken the decision to leave the VBOA for this reason.

There used to be real benefits being VBOA affiliated, there's no real reason to from what I can see these days.

What's the best day to go Saturday or Sunday ? I was thinking Saturday bearing in mind it's a 2 1/2 hour drive for me, as people tend to start leaving after lunch on Sunday.

It varies from year to year -
If you arrive and stay late, then Saturday is better.
If you are an early bird and like the parades, then Sunday is better.

Giving the CD a once over ready for tomorrow's run to Sywell and found n/s rear tyre had lost about 6lbs? Normally pressures stay pretty much spot on. Anyway pumped it up and went for some E10 (£1.81.9!) came back and decided to jack the wheel up and look for the culprit. Nice Pozi headed screw into one of the tread blocks, bit of spit and it was making bubbles, not big bubbles but bubbles.
So whipped it off and put the never used Goodyear spare ally wheel on, don't even get a spare now let alone an alloy wheel!
£18.50 later we are back to where I started but now ready for the morrow!
Will keep a lookout for you Ian.

Weather has been dreadful up here, I hope it has not spoilt things at Sywell.
I thought it was going to be a repeat of 2012, when the whole event was flooded... but then it was at Billing back then.

Great day! Started off cloudy but then the sun came out and was then quite warm and pretty windy!
Spotted by James & Lizzie with Junior then later on spotted by Ian (I don't see anyone!)
Good to have a brief chat with you all, James & family were camping but mum & dad were in the luxury of a nearby hotel.
No bargains bought by me this year, other than my £1 pliers, but there seemed to be a reasonable selection of goodies.
Big delay advised on M11 so we detoured off route which actually took us over the M11 twice, and would you believe it was all running fine but it added best part of an hour to the journey.
Would I go again - probably!

Forgot to say there were some lovely examples of vehicles, the standard of restorations has definitely improved over the years. My favourite today would be the Lotus Carlton, underneath was just as impressive as the top. Many hours had been lavished on it.

Sorry guys, over two months late but better late than never!
Firstly I have to apologise for quality of some of these photos. i stupidly forgot my DSLR and had to take all of these on my phone.
This year was slightly different for us from recent years, not only because the Cavalier and Chevette club who I normally go with has now left the VBOA, in a dispute over its management, but also because it was William's first VBOA and his first time camping!
With this in mind we thought it wise to only stay one night, over Saturday/Sunday.
When we arrived we parked up at the 'Guest' area, joined by a much diminished Cavalier and Chevette club, and pitched up our tent.
To begin with, William didn't show much interest!
The one advantage of the dismemberment of the Cavalier and Chevette club from the VBOA, is that others could join us on our little Guest stand.
So on Sunday we saw a very familiar face as Ian parked his GSi up with us:
We also saw Alan and his very tidy CD, though he parked in the peasant car park
Obviously, the first place to go at these events is the trade stands and this year there was a pretty good showing.
I personally picked up a crankshaft pulley and an air con pipe for the Diplomat, both parts unique to C20NE engined Cavs with air con so pretty rare.
The club stands were, as always, a fantastic sight to see.

The Autobahn stormers club is always a source of some of my favourite show cars and this year did not disappoint with a very good turn out.
The obligatory Lotus Carlton, seemed to be fewer of them this year.

A club that never fails to impress, especially if you are a fan of cars parked so perfectly in line they would make an architect blush!
It's also home to some of the cleanest cars you've ever seen.

They are amongst my favourites too.
Along with the Monza and other big "Opel" battle-cruisers.
And welcome to William as the youngest affiliate of the forum.
I am surprised that he was not wearing any Vauxhall Griffin socks.
Maybe Lizzie was hogging them again - like she did before at many of the VBOA / Vauxfest events in the past.

James normally takes a professional quality DSLR camera - he is as o.c.d about photos as I am with electrics.
But yes, smart phones are amazing these days -
my latest phone (Samsung A53) actually remasters photos to improve crispness and photo quality.

You can really tell the difference when you zoom in though and of course you are so much more limited in terms of framing and adjusting aperture sizes, iso, shutter speed etc.

Clun Calibra always gets gives a massive stand. They normally do quite elaborate displays with jacked up cars and mirrors but this year was very tame.

I would say VauxFest 2019...on the Sunday.
It was when we did the line up at the end of the show, with the four CavMk3OC members' cars lined up in age order.
I told you we were a bit OCD.
