The Mk3 Cavaliers of VBOA National Day, Billing, July 2011

Post by humbucker »

July 2nd/3rd saw 'the big one' take place at Billing Aquadrome, Northampton... yep, it was the VBOA National Day. The weather really was on our side this time and there were a fantastic range of cars from the Vauxhall/Opel/Bedford stable on display.

Before I even set off, this was one of a number of reasons my Cavalier didn't make it to the show; there appears to be at least one surviving pterodactyl flying around and it really doesn't like my car...

Image

... so I took the Astra instead hehe! This year there was a particularly good turnout of Mk3 Cavaliers, and I'm sure I missed some, but I tried to snap every Cavalier I could see so that I could post them here on the club forum for the benefit of those who were unable to attend. So without further ado here are the Mk3 Cavaliers of Billing 2011!

8-)

This Turbo was outside a tent offering mobile dent repairs. I think the guy who owned it asked for two to be repaired only for the guys doing the work to point out a third! They know how to earn their money hehe:

Image

It was good to see a fair few motors that have graced the pages of http://www.vauxhallcavalier.com and Dave955's Turbo was attracting a lot of attention (no surprises there!):

Tidy white GSi, for sale if you're interested. Looks like the phone number is in the window!:

I think these are SAAB rims. A different look for this V6:

Another CavMk3OC member's car, this time m00k was demonstrating the earth shattering sound of his ICE install, simultaneously proving that listening to Milli Vanilli doesn't need to be something you shy away from:

Another CavMk3OC member, and the recently appointed treasurer of the Autobahnstormers, Dieselicious is in the process of giving his Cavalier Mk3 a new lease of life. Here it is tucked away at the back of the AS stand:

Image

Another Cavalier with a For Sale sign in the window, this time a Turbo on facelift Omega Elite alloys, something I had planned for my own car:

Image

Little known fact; a roofbox adds 20bhp to your motor! Just ask CavMk3OC member PSL :p :

The car on the left is the last ever Cavalier to have rolled off of the production line (although it's not the last ever registered):

Well that's it for another year... see you at Billing in 2012! :wave

ahh yes now i remember it, i did see it on the way in but couldn't track it down again, maybe he left early? shame as we were trying to find as many RWD C20LETs as we could and that would have been a good one to look over. fortunately there were plenty on the manta stand.

i seem to remember a builds feature on the RWD Cavalier MK3 Turbo in Total Vauxhall magazine last year, must dig it out. did you get any detailed shots of the engine bay?

In addition to some of the fantastic Mk3 Cavaliers that were on display, there were stacks of other brilliant examples of projects and restorations to gawp at, and two or three in particular that got me excited were these:

Always been a big fan of Mk2 Cavalier hatchbacks, and these two were great examples:

This one was my favourite car of the whole show:

Closely followed by this beast, the mighty Commodore!:

yeah i'll have to dig the mag out. i know that the owner asked for all project threads on mig/vxon/vauxsport and everywhere else that featured the car to be removed, he didn't want anyone accessing/replying to the threads anymore. it's a shame as it was a great project, a bit like rc's RWD mk3 astra project. you can still access it on the web archive tool thingie but most of the pics are missing.

Mine was the one with the roof box lol, coupled with a trailer tent and a car full, it did a very healthy 43mpg, not too bad for a derv ;)

Nice to meet you yesterday Dan and hear about all your Cav and Omegas!

I take it you know Seweryn through OOF?

Glad to see you liked my mates Commodore as well. Literally hand built it in his shed. Legend!
From the moment I picked up your book until I laid it down I was convulsed with laughter

yes, we're good friends; we met through OOF a few years ago and have kept in regular contact ever since. your mate's commodore is great... i'm usually a zx spectrum kinda guy but willing to make the exception on this occasion :p

yeah you're not wrong, it was pretty hot, i got burned up even with the sunbloc on. huge accident on the a45 eastbound on the way home, no billing-goers involved, but looked nasty.

was a bit disappointed with the autojumble this time around; there was sod all there, and even though i managed to pick up a bargain or two there wasn't exactly a lot going on. even the traders were saying it had been dead all weekend, presumably not helped by the vast quantities of absolute tat some people had decided to try and offload.

yes, flame red and flame pink for the plastics haha! when we got the astra it only had 20k on the clock (this time last year) but i think it must have sat outside for its life up until that point as the plastics are faded a little. we were thinking of fitting a gsi front bumper so refrained from getting it fixed up, but perhaps a mop will revitalise it. age old red ink complaint, it doesnt reflect uv light, same for all signage as well.
